True...but to be fair , when they were "good" in the white ball game they generally tended to turn up when placed in that situation . Possibly a little too much to expect the current side to do so ?

They might get past Afghanistan - though I'm not placing bets. And then ? Ah but one at a time I think ...

Delayed start. Maybe better for England if Australia wins and then England's qualification is in their own hands?

Still nothing happening. No result wouldn't do England any harm.

This sort of short format tournament drags up scenarios you don't see much, but what happens to NRR if some play occurs, but the minimum 20 over requirement for a result is not met?

If NRR applies, you could have a scenario where one team with 10 wickets and only 20 overs to bat wracks up a 10 an over without finishing their bowling, and then gets an impenetrable tie-break barrier against anyone else.

And on the flip side, imagine if one team comes out to bat, is bowled out for 50 runs, and then it rains..... and then they qualify courtesy of NRR even though they registered one of the lowest NRRs ever that was disregarded.

At least this simplifies the equation so there won't be any NRR ******* if England lose to Afghanistan. Lose either game, they're out.

I'm paying very little attention to this tournament as the last 4 is a foregone conclusion, but FWIW, my guess now is England scrape past Afghanistan with an unconvincing performance that still gets hopes up a fraction, then get hammered by South Africa.
