He might get some wickets with his barrage of bouncers!

He'll probably get a big score in the second innings

Weely Top 5

1. James Vince - 311 - Doing big things in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament. Is the ninth highest scorer with 148 runs with an average strike rate of 187.34. Basically whenever he plays you're guaranteed at least 50 points. Is guaranteed at least one more game and might have a further 4.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal - 201 - Got the feeling that his score of 161 was a defining innings in his burgeoning career. Despite that it is only worth silver medal this week. He does move up a place to 8th this week, over-taking his inactive Indian team mate Ravindra Jadeja.

3. Phil Salt - 196 - Registers his fourth three figure score in a row. Has got 892 points in the last month across his 20 over and 10 over commitments with England and Team Abu Dhabi. Started the year slowly but sure is finishing it strongly.

4. Virat Kohli - 155 - A century sees Kohli back in the Top 5 for the first time since July. Such has been his poor form that this is his highest score since May's Yearly Best 244.

5. Mitchell Marsh - 155 - It is telling how bad a 2024 Marsh has had when this is his third highest score of the year. 53 runs and 3 wickets in the loss to India was just enough to keep Jos Buttler in 6th place. He moves up a place on the Overall list to 19th.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 4681 - Registering decent, if not spectacular numbers in the WBBL. Holds top spot for a seventh week. Only Azam's 20 weeks in first place have been longer.

2. James Vince - 4338 - Despite registering the 16th highest score of the year, Vince stays in second place and can only slash the gap on first to 343. More impressively the gap to third place stands at 652.

3. Travis Head - 3686 - Followed up his 6 week absence for cricket with a decent, if not rather underwhelming, 140. Lot of cricket in him yet this year though.

4. Phil Salt - 892 points in a month has seen him go from 13th to 4th. Quite the jump for a guy who took 5 months to break in the Top 10.

5. Sam Curran - Inactive this week and down a place to 5th; his lowest position for 15 weeks. Things could get even worse as he is just 121 points ahead of the next active player Marnus Labuschagne in 7th.

Other Movers

Despite Harry Brook's fairly anodyne 79 against a New Zealand Prime Minister's XI, he still manages to move up 2 places; overtaking the inactive Rachin Ravindra and Simon Harmer,

Top Three Averages

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 167.18 (Down from 168.44)
2. Jos Buttler -143.26 (Up from 142.83)
3. Ravindra Jadeja - 132.39.

James Vince average improves the most up by an impressive 5.44 to 1205, whilst Marnus' poor start to the BGT sees his average decrease to the tune of 3.53. He currently stands at 123.35 a week.

:hmmm

How is this even remotely possible? Marnus is having an absolute calamity of a year, Brook is the 2nd highest international run scorer across all formats (and only behind Mendis because he has played 20 less matches).

The stats do throw up some interesting things about the scoring.

Brook and Harmer before this week had the same amount of FC games. Brook had 5 centuries and well over a 1000 runs at an average that is almost world leading for anyone who has scored a comparable amount of runs- Harmer had no 5 wicket hauls, no contributions with the bat, and a below average 2 wickets per innings at 33. Harmer however is ahead. The econ bonus in CC is way overpowered in favour of bowlers. A bowler maintaining a below average econ can get a 30 point bonus per innings, which is the same equivalent bonus of a batter scoring a 100. It works for T20I, but for 4-5 day games its a huge advantage.

Harmer for instance would factor about 140 runs per game based on this average.
Root, the highest test run scorer in 2024, would average 96
Even if Root has played 2 more FC matches, he is 400-500 points off Harmer despite their level of play being the opposite.
Bedingham, who has most runs in all of the world this year in 4-5 day games, only beats Harmer by 1-2 runs per game..... which in practice would be wiped out by the fact all bowlers bat, and even the world batsman in history average 2-3 runs.

So yeah.... over similarish amount of games, best case scenario bats vs average bowlers will get smoked.

Weekly Top 5

1. Harry Brook - 241 - The man of the moment is the man of the week with yet another ton. Surprisingly this is only his this Cricketer of the Week from his 26 active weeks in 2024. You would imagine we will be seeing more of him going into our 2025 Lists.

2. Moeen Ali - 173 - Last played for Guyana almost 2 months ago and then clocks back in for the same unit in the Global T20 League. 4 games in a week will always give you a bit of a boost. Moeen is the ultimate yo-yo-er and is back up to 11th on the Overall List.

3. Daryl Mitchell - 123 - Making hay in the antipodean sun whilst he has been scrabbling around in the dirt for most of the year. This is his second successive active week in the Top 5.

4. James Vince - 116 - Finishes his jolly up in Abu Dhabi having scored 484 in three weeks. Now onto the BBL; starting next weekend.

5. Shubman Gill - 80 - Hard to read much from this. Retired 50* in a two day Test warm-up game that was reduced to one day and was played the week after the First Test was over. Still enough for him to move up to 15th Overall.

Overall Top 5

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 4681 - I could be wrong (it has been known) but I think that this might be Athapaththu's final total. I cannot see anymore cricket on the horizon for her in 2024. It doesn't feel enough for our first female cricketer to finish first.

2. James Vince - 4454 - Vince will finish second of first this year. 768 points sperate him to third and he has 4 BBL games between now and New Years Eve to overthrow the 227 point gap on first. He averages 80.25 per T20 game.

3. Travis Head - 3686 - Another week's rest (if that's the right word for a father of a month old baby. Back in action next week.

4. Phil Salt - 3569 - Did not end the Abu Dhabi T10 competition with the pyrotechnics we saw throughout the rest of the tournament but keeps his fourth place spot.

5. Sam Curran - 3460 - Inactive again...you feel he may finish 2024 outside the Top 5. Jaiswal is 233 points away from him, Labuschagne 253, Jadeja 348 and Brook 360.

Other Mover

45 points in the 'warm-up' game against an Australian Prime Minister's XI was enough to see him overtake Labuschagne into 8th.

Top Three Averages

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 167.18
2. Jos Buttler - 140.05 (Down from 143.26)
3. Ravindra Jadeja - 129.67 (Down from 132.39)

Seems cruel, if not also very funny, that Kohli not batting or fielding gets him 0 points in a warm up game and sees his average drop by a smidge over 4 points to 93.92. Harry Brook's goes up the most, +4.87 to 119.23.

Weekly Top 5

1. Harry Brook - 268 - For the second time in a fortnight, the fourth time this year and the fifth time ever Brook finishes as Cricketer of the Week. He also surges up to just outside the Overall Top 5. A huge improvement on his 14th place finish last year.

2. Travis Head - 200 - Last time out he got 140 points...now he got 140 runs and finishes on a round 200 for the week.

3. Marnus Labuschagne - 94 - Huge gap in terms of points between second and third this week. Nobody can say that 64 runs is a return to form for Marnus but it is surely better than nothing.

4. Shubman Gill - 59 - 59 runs this week and 59 points, nothing from the field, no strike rate points just pure batting mediocrity from the man who finished third last year and has looked underwhelming this.

5. Daryl Mitchell - 58 - Three successive weeks in the Top 5 for Mitchell. This is by some distance is most disappointing of the lot. Only in the Top 5 due to the fact that this week's average score (68.58) is the lowest for 2 months.

Overall Top 5

For the third successive week the Top 5 remains unchanged at:

Chamari Athapaththu 4681
James Vince 4454
Travis Head 3886
Phil Salt 3569
Sam Curran 3460

Could we have an exciting finish like last year where long time leader Shakib Al Hasan got usurped with a week to spare. Vince could do it with a decent start to the BBL....and can we even rule Travis Head out?

Top Three Averages

1. Chamari Athapaththu - 167.18
2. Jos Buttler - 140.05
3. Ravindra Jadeja - 129.67

Again harry Brook moves up the most, has added 10 points to his average over the last fortnight. Babar Azam's score of 0 sees him drop firther away from the Top 3 - 122.33 puts him 5th.

Last 5 weeks have been won by English Cricketers.....only 6 of our 22 are English and they are all playing on the other side of the world. Surprising.
