The stats do throw up some interesting things about the scoring.
Brook and Harmer before this week had the same amount of FC games. Brook had 5 centuries and well over a 1000 runs at an average that is almost world leading for anyone who has scored a comparable amount of runs- Harmer had no 5 wicket hauls, no contributions with the bat, and a below average 2 wickets per innings at 33. Harmer however is ahead. The econ bonus in CC is way overpowered in favour of bowlers. A bowler maintaining a below average econ can get a 30 point bonus per innings, which is the same equivalent bonus of a batter scoring a 100. It works for T20I, but for 4-5 day games its a huge advantage.
Harmer for instance would factor about 140 runs per game based on this average.
Root, the highest test run scorer in 2024, would average 96
Even if Root has played 2 more FC matches, he is 400-500 points off Harmer despite their level of play being the opposite.
Bedingham, who has most runs in all of the world this year in 4-5 day games, only beats Harmer by 1-2 runs per game..... which in practice would be wiped out by the fact all bowlers bat, and even the world batsman in history average 2-3 runs.
So yeah.... over similarish amount of games, best case scenario bats vs average bowlers will get smoked.
