I guess people will see the scorecard and just dismiss this as another trash day for England, but it felt like England were desperately unlucky in the first part of the day. Anderson beat Warner's bat several times, Broad had lbw's overturned, and there was one over he sent down to Marnus where I think every single ball in the over beat a genuine attempt to play by wizzing past the edge. Broad particularly got a hint of swing, and seam off the pitch. Was a lot of risky leaving, generated a lot of hesitancy outside off.
Sometimes you dont get what you deserve, and thats how it felt for England early on. After that the pitch felt on the slow side, especially as the ball got softer, and the luck and patience the batsman banked in the early stages paid off.
Of course, Buttler giving the batter nine lives didnt help. The first drop I think is straightforward if he goes with his left hand alone, but he tries to take it with his right hand coming across to his left, which just feels like poor technique. And the second is flat out nonsense from a test level keeper.... I expect old men in village cricket to make those stick routinely. Made even more bizarre when you think he took an absolute stunner to get rid of Harris - as good as a catch you see from a keeper back because the ball is almost passed him when he snags it.
Day to Australia, but some small positives to take away for England
