You're correct in saying that the costs of the project overall have spiralled out of control but not many projects of this type do come in on budget.

Mr Bransgrove had a vision of bringing international cricket to the south of England, and due to certain unforeseen obstacles, bad planning and resistance from the ECB it has cost taxpayers as well as himself a fair bit of dough.

Can't fault the guy for his vision and ambition, and it may now be leased from the Council, but at least it gives a few people in this area the opportunity to watch international cricket.

If you want to see a bit of Women's international t20 then of course you can go to Hove!

Was a minefield on Day 1, must have flattened out at bit on Day 2/3 under glorious susnhine as the norm before starting to break up.

Pretty poor from Yorks against a second string attack. I suppose they can say the game was safe.

Full credit to Hampshire for seeing this game off, Yorkshire's bowlers can't have done too much wrong if the overall run rate was below 3rpo.

Gale declared too soon for me. Yorkshire should have carried on for another 8 overs and pushed the score nearer to 650 when the part-timers were on. Reaching 590 odd is one thing, but do it too early and you leave the risk of the opposing team avoiding the follow on with enough time in the game for all 3 results to be possible.

The pitch was the only winner A.P. Even if Yorkshire had made them follow on,you'd already been in the field for almost a day and a half and the bowlers must have been exhausted. Further immediate exertions would bring a high risk of injury.

Tim Ambrose the Warks keeper took his first ever first class wicket yesterday which ended the game to a draw with his fifth delivery. His previous bowling exploits were limited to a single over for Sussex.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Bad news for Fidel....

"Edwards, Hampshire's talisman as they escaped relegation on the final day last season, was the latest casualty after badly twisting an ankle in the pre-match warm-up and being carried from the outfield. It remained unclear whether the ankle was broken - he remained in Leeds after the match for further tests - but Hampshire are provisionally estimating a lay-off of two months, which equates to half the Championship season."

True to an extent, though Yorkshire did have Hampshire 120-5 and 200-6. Had Yorkshire got Hampshire all out for sub 400, then I imagine the follow on would be enforced.

This is where the declaration timing comes into managing bowlers. Set a declaration with 10-12 overs before tea, then the opening bowlers can bowl 20-24 overs combined in one spell with a new ball in between the tea break. That leaves 56-60 overs for the other three bowlers to mostly get rid off before the new ball, especially with a spinner and containing seamer who can hold at least one end.

If high scoring pitches become the norm in County Championship cricket, personally I would be looking to declare after tea on Day 2 and/or go with 6 bowlers.

Yorkshire travel to Edgbaston this week in a game that could be a defining moment for the season of both teams. I have a feeling that Yorks missed Bresnan's bowling against Hant's as Warks missed Woakes in their game.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Yorkshire keep the same squad for the game against Warks tomorrow, with David Willey and Will Rhodes supplementing the eleven who drew with Hants. Rhodes scored a pair of tons for the seconds during the week.

Yorkshire unchanged, no Root or Bresnan. Warks have Woakes playing and are at full strength.
