If he digs in for a couple of hours we could be safe, if he holds up an end for Maxwell to attack or shares things with Carbs we could at least get a lead but if he footles around & gets a 6 ball duck or a 20 ball 8 we're doomed, doomed.
I don't know where you've got this stupid idea hes in poor form, he averaged 38 this season before yesterday, and he got an unplayable ball from Ajmal.
Ervine has got one 50 this season in the CC I reckon. He has an average of 34 at the start of the day which is definitely quite reasonable for a player who bats in his position.
However my comment does not mention he is in poor form so where "this stupid idea" comes from will require some reasearch.
I certainly do not consider my comment above "a stupid idea" - if it is, then a lot of strong opinions on the various threads - usually negative ones but not always - can be classed as being in a league of their own! Superstupid perhaps?
As always the proof will be in the performance - let's see what Slug does today.
