I don't know where you've got this stupid idea hes in poor form, he averaged 38 this season before yesterday, and he got an unplayable ball from Ajmal.

Not yet - but I do fear that any lead will be too obtainable for Worcs. What would be great if they had to chase 120 in 12-15 overs - well worth watching! Although the absence of Briggs would be a major problem!

Ervine has got one 50 this season in the CC I reckon. He has an average of 34 at the start of the day which is definitely quite reasonable for a player who bats in his position.

However my comment does not mention he is in poor form so where "this stupid idea" comes from will require some reasearch.

I certainly do not consider my comment above "a stupid idea" - if it is, then a lot of strong opinions on the various threads - usually negative ones but not always - can be classed as being in a league of their own! Superstupid perhaps? :dunno

As always the proof will be in the performance - let's see what Slug does today.

Twice yesterday you mentioned him being out of form...which isn't true, as he averaged 38 before the day started. and I meant the notion hes "in a poor run" is stupid.

It was me who suggested Ervine wasn't in great form, but I did qualify it by saying I hadn't looked at the stats. I was probably wrong and his form is ok, just no innings of note has stuck in my head thus far into the season, but then again I can't remember what I had for breakfast so he probably scored 93 in the first match of the season!

An average of 38 is obviously not poor for an all-rounder but I would have to see a list of his consecutive scores before I would state that he is not on a poorish run.
Many players have artificially boosted averages due to one good knock (I remember his 93 which was obviously very good) or lots of not-outs - I don't think Slug has had more than a couple of them but I would expect his average to be nearer 30 than 40 at the end of the season.

If I'm wrong in September I'll try to remember to dig this comment out & state Mea culpa & Slug

Well he certainly scored 93 at some time or other - perhaps while you were eating your toast! :)

Ervine is certainly a Marmite sort of player - but I'm getting back to breakfast!

50 for Maxwell but a poor strike rate for him of only 118!

Ajmal wicketless so far today, now there's a good way to jinx an innings!

If Ajmal does a Thomas (4 wickets in 4 balls for Somerset yesterday) before 3 o'clock, we'll know who to blame!

Well they've managed that at least.

Does that mean we'll lose him a fortnight after he arrives?
