219ao...but the sky looks like "the end of the world is coming"

we were 107-1

Ajmal had hardly bowled when we were at that score.

I don't think even the rain will save us from here, looks very much like 3 points from this game.

Ajmal 7 Hants 0.

Having just got in it's fascinating to read all the posts during play today on this thread! A mix of positivity & gloom - optimism & realism!
After a century partnership we have really been found lacking.
Against a decent CC2 side our batting suddenly looks rather weak.

I think we played the other bowlers ok, Ajmal destroyed us single handedly. He is way above the standard of bowling in div 1 let alone div 2.

Have we got a bowler of similar standard who will provide the vital cutting edge when batsmen get stuck in? (I think i know the answer!)

If we were promoted this season (after Worcs?) would we do a Derbyshire & come straight back down?

Slug will prob go after he gets a benefit but seems to be in a poorish run & Carbs is so erratic with Jimmy unable to get the big scores atm.

Let's hope for something like 30-0 rather than 19-4! (I assume we're following on)

Sussex lost 5 (five) wickets at the same score against Somerset today - we don't want Carbs, Jimmy & assorted night watchmen to duplicate that!

Well I suppose one wicket down isn't too bad. They have to come up with a plan of how to play Ajmal tomorrow otherwise this game could be over before tea.

I think the best plan is to score heavily off whoever is at the other end, try and get in the lead.

Can't disagree with that Budget. Across both innings so far, Ajmal has taken 8-70. The rest have taken 3-175.

We've not crumbled to a better side. We've hardly thrown away a solid start. We've simply been done by one of the best bowler's in the world.

Without him this season, Worcs do not get promoted. Without him next season, Worcs come straight back down (assuming they do get promoted).

We are a better team than there, I am 100% confident of that. At 107-1 we had every chance of overtaking their 402. But they have the best bowler in the county cricket, simple as that. If we get knocked over tomorrow and lose by an innings, as it's fair to think we will, I wont be annoyed or disappointed. I have no issues with someone like Ajmal running through us. I'm just thankful that they only gave him three overs this evening. With only 14 overs to bowl, I'd have opened with him.

Will Smith said he and the team are confident of salvaging the game and that Ajmal is playable Vince and Carbs not being out too him is a boost to them both

Personally I'm bloody annoyed at him being bowled the last ball before lunch, also at Adams who was out twice to Ajmal both times sweeping.

Centuryclub wrote:Big day for Hants. A gritty determined Boycott-like innings by Adams is probably needed. Ervine hasn't really got going this season so hopefully he can do one of his sheltering the tail classic knocks.
I thought hopes of getting the last 6 Worcs wickets for about 70 were wildly optimistic especially as Abbott was missing from the attack. Well done Balcombe - always appears to give 100%.

ANOTHER big day for Hants! No Adams innings for us today though.

I agree with the comments about Ajmal's ability & class; however if we go up we'll be facing other top class bowlers - even if they are are not playing full seasons in CC1. Hants have had a few seasons adjusting to/existing in CC2 - today is the perfect opportunity to put on a show of resistance but to attack the bad ball when necessary. It's been a few games since a ton - we'll almost certainly need at least one or about 4 to 5 50-80's.

Come on Hampshireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
