Oh yes indeed. Most Sussex fans do. We do like Hampshire though, it's a friendly rivalry. Most support Brighton at football, but I chose Pompey coming from Chichester. I like Brighton too. I'm not one of those angry types of Pompey fan, I don't understand them at all.

I live right near the Hants/Surrey border, so i always view them as our main rivals.

You say Scudamore didnt deserve punishment for an email he sent colleagues, on the grounds it was a private communication..... yet constantly bang on about the text KP sent IN PRIVATE to someone else as grounds for a sacking much later.

I'll reply to this one again, sp, as my original reply, and some of yours, seem to have become innocent casualties of some later, rather heavy handed censorship. I think it's only fair for the record to show an answer to this particular point...

One communication contained a joke and the other contained personal abuse directed at a colleague behind his back and sent to the opposition. There is a world of difference between them.

the difference is D/L its only a joke if you find it funny, and I don't think any woman will find it funny and amongst my male friends, none of us found it funny, if KP said his texts were a "joke", would it then be acceptable ??

Personally i find too many people ( not aimed at you DL ) get away with so much racism, sexism and other forms of abuse by then saying "I was only joking" after it.

The point was, you cant say one is not punishable because its a private joke, and the other is in the public interest because of the content it contained.

you have to back one argument.... either communications are taken at face value, even if private, and are punishable, or that they are to be considered private and therefore not punishable.

Your opinion is twisted to cover not the issue at hand, but the people involved.

I don't think it's on record whether the recipient of Scudamore's private e-mail found it funny. It was only snooping and selling the details to the press that revealed its contents.

It was the recipients of Pietersen's texts who revealed their contents.

So there we have another fundamental difference between the two incidents. If neither of you can understand the differences, then I accept there is nothing I can do about it.

On the censorship issue, though, as well as its being badly handled and unnecessary, I would add that it was rather unfair not to have censored the post that started the altercation and to have left sp's point seemingly unanswered and apparently accepted as having some merit.

I still don't see your point D/L...Basically you are saying you can do what you want as long as you don't get caught ?

Scudamore is the head of a massive organisation and shouldn't be making these sort of comments, in jest or not.

People dislike Surrey more and more because of the Brighton/Palace rivalry, and Palace being based in Croydon, Surrey. Historically the old timers will tell you Kent, I have always considered it Hampshire

No, that seems to be another complete misunderstanding. Scudamore is not the issue here and his case is in no way relevant to the Pietersen issue. It is just another one of sp's "red herrings".

I'd add that if everyone who told a private joke that some would deem offensive to a work colleague, or misused the company's e-mail system, were sacked for it and then seen as unsuitable for future employment, the jobless figures would soar.

Downton has issued an apology to KP over his recent comments.

Beggers belief. The ECB have repeatedly stated this then suddenly are making a public appology over it. High time everyone started being honest about what went on, even if it nothing more Cook doesn't much like him.

I think its due to the contract clause, I believe neither side are meant to speak publicly until October, this is probably to stop KP suing the ECB.

Just discussed this with my wife. Both of us in agreement this breach, as public as you can get, amounts to gross misconduct and that PD should be dismissed.

It's rather difficult to think on what grounds Pietersen may have sued the ECB, until now, that is. Until now, he was just another player whose services had been dispensed with.
