Now we await the verdict of the pitch panel. I agree with westoelad-would be very harsh to impose a penalty on an early season pitch.

Points deductions are very rare despite the 15 wickets in a day scenario occurring quite often.

I remember when Durham were playing Kent at Stockton a few years ago. The pitch was abysmal. Kenny Gardner, a club director at the time, told me there was a lot of talking went on in a private room afterwards and as he put it "We got away with it by the skin of our teeth".

So there may be some hope for Notts.

Surely they wil need a good explanation of why they decided against using the heavy roller which might have made all the difference in romoving the ball pitch marks from the wicket.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Was that the game that provoked Rob Key to call the pitch inspectors" muppets?"

Forecast for tomorrow isn't great, so they need to declare soon.

Probably waiting for Ballances 50.

Forecast on the BBC site is for a sunny day in London tomorrow. Less good the next day.

Forecast looks good in St Johns Wood tomorrow, possibility of a shower this afternoon though.

Problem with declaring soon is there are enough overs for Middlesex chase a total down, more so when Yorkshire batsmen are finding the boundaries on a regular basis.

I'll be more at ease with Middlesex having to chase 500 off 115 overs.

No consistency in it at all, depends on who the pitch inspector supports. As I said before, I went to that Sussex match at Bristol when there was over 20 wickets fell on the first day ( I think I read also one of the highest lbw counts in a completed first class game) and the pitch inspector refused to blame the pitch even though it was like batting on a trampoline. Apparently all the batsman got out to bad shots.....

Seems there was a bad shot jinx at Bristol, because wickets had clattered all over the place there...( I think by memory there had been 20 wickets fall or more day 1 the game before, and a similar amount before that - while Derbyshire the year after got bowled out for 44, and another 20 wickets fell as Gloucs were blown away)....

And then Hampshire got a ridiculous penalty for preparing wickets that spun a little.... while Somerset at the same time had county quality wickets producing 10 wickets per 1000 runs (wasn't there a season where nearly 900 was scored by Northants, and then a few 600 plus??).

Personally if its not dangerous a la Sabina Park 1998, then its equal for both teams and get on with it.

Middlesex going through the Yorkshire tail, not sure if it's a good thing or bad thing.
