That link is an example of the hypocrisy of media. :clap

Cricket is a proper professional setup now. I believe that if our selectors listen to media then the team will be highly unstable. Cricket should not go by the way media wants it to be run. Atleast i wish so. Our selectors are no saints but they at least have idea about cricket, what it takes and what it does not. They dont think like media, they think like cricketers. It helps. We have won two world cups until now, and One T20 cup. If you blame selectors for loss of the series then you also have to give credit for the wins we have enjoyed which other countries have not even experienced once. The media writers will suggest their favorite players "X" and run away when he performs badly. It's the selectors who will face criticism, and to our surprise the very same media who wanted failed player X in team will criticize selectors on his failure and try to get player " Y". Against Australia the best has to play. You cannot throw a sheep in front of the lion and say " Fight with Lion". One lion will lose to other lion but at least the lions are competing. I hope you get my point. Also you never know the player being selected in Sachin's place this series keeping in mind 2015 will be fit or not, will play well or be sacked in 2012,2013,2014 or maybe 2015.

See at the specialist batsmen of other teams. They are having specialist ODI batsmen with below par ODI averages and below par strike rate. Give them Sachin even at this age . See how happy they will be. We have him, but we don't want him. Our media is like very rich men. A rich man will buy gold studded car but only when he gets bankrupt he realizes value of spending money on gold studded cars. Like a rich man media are not realizing Sachin's worth. Who sachin, what Sachin, why him :coat
But Sachin is cool dude, not reacting, as humble as ever, will talk only with bat , 100th 100 :thumb

No one can play forever and it is high time that youngsters like Manoj Tiwari get a chance to play in One-day cricket.

Seems i am the only one who is supporting Sachin. Okay , but My views are influenced because of this personal experience.

For one of the the clubs that i played for , i was the best batsman of the team in 20 overs as well as 40 overs format. We had about 20 guys in this club, and those who were not core part of the team would not get games during the season because our cricket season was small. So the coaches wanted to give experience to lesser skilled. I used to think why the hell should i be dropped even when i am scoring runs more than other specialist batters. Why not drop other specialist batsmen "Tejus" or "Saurav" who are performing bad as openers and lesser skilled batting wise than me, putting pressure on middle order. More so middle order is delivering under pressure to be best batsman of series. Even missing a 20 or 40 over club level game without your mistake hurts a lot. Cricket is life even for a club cricketer. Remember it. I cannot even guess what cricket is for Sachin. We had sponsors but our wins and losses did not matter for matches with other clubs, apart from Kanga league, so less skilled players could play in some amtches. Team India is different, it's not just a cricket club. If India wins series Team India will get ranked higher, more sponsors, more tours by top playing nations, more rewards, board is indirectly benefited. Now see the role of Sachin and other quality cricketers and how they have helped where BCCI is and wheer India stands as a cricketing nation. The credit only goes to Dalmiya in Indian Media though. Also in Sachins context he did not play few ODI series because he wanted to play against "Aussies". I dont think international level should function like what happens at club level, at least when it comes to once in a lifetime cricekter like Sachin. Imagine why Sachin should be rested in spite of being the best batsman of India, and one of the best in the World. He is not a club cricketer to let it go, he will want to play atleast few games. So they opt to rest Gautam and Sehwag as well. A reasonable balanced solution is found by selectors and think tank. But retirement , whose idea it is . It's not selectors, it's the media's. It is his passion, his plan and his willingness to score more runs for country. Dhoni never said Sachin should retire, neither did Srikanth. It's the media who is seeking his retirement, and those who are paid to write articles for cricket. Maybe the rates must be more for sensational articles.

People are so obsessed with age. If Tiwari is so good he should be in the team and its not Sachin that is keeping him out....there are other batting positions in the team.

Its just like the overseas player argument: keeping English players out of the County team when 2 overseas were allowed. They are only keeping the weakest 2 players from playing.

If Sachin is better than the other options, then play him.
Ian Bell: first England player to 10,000 Test runs.
Stuart Broad: first England player to 400 test wickets.

Mr. Adi, there might be a slight misunderstanding...

However great SRT is, he is not gonna live/play forever, is he? Eventually he will need to be replaced. Considering he might not play in 2015 WC (very realistic assumption), why not try and build a team that will defend the title, even if SRT is rested more frequently. I don't see how this can come across as not supporting SRT :)

Using your analogy here - When you know that someone is gonna retire from an organisation soon, why keep giving him more and more responsibilities :thumb

Well Adi, how does it therefore make sense that Gambhir is subjected to being rotated out of the team when he is in vastly better form than either of the two more senior openers, if you are going to set a determing factor of performance that is.

Nope I've said I can see why he played this series. Why wouldn't we want our best batsmen ever in the biggest ODI comp after the WC? But I also agree with the rotation policy that has existed. And that maybe he or the selectors should take a decision soon as we have no tough away tours coming up. I'm not sure there's ever a right time to retire. And maybe it's harsh to ask someone who loves the game so much like Punter and Sachin to put a time when they want to finish. That's why there needs to be some communication between the player and the selectors. I'm not sure the way Aus communicated to Punter was right, seemed out of the blue, and it must be noted that he didn't retire in that press conference.

I never said he will play till 45 or he should, but there is chance he can be fit and better skilled than other specialist batsmen until 40 or 41. Wait until then. Why to bury the man before he is dead.

Resting of one amongst Sachin, Gautam and Sehwag is for giving one or two newbies some feel of Australia wickets and conditions. Sachin has perhaps played 5 series in OZ. Also Sehwag has played in OZ in 2003, 2005 and 2008. Gautam has played in OZ in 2008 and has better technique than Rohit or Raina. So they 3 have experience and candidates who can be rested for developing one specialist batsman for 2015. Other specialist batsman like Rohit and Raina do not have as much experience as those three. Resting is a policy which must have been planned in the team/think tank meeting before series i suppose. Gautam is a victim of it. Even if Sachin or sehwag had scored a ton they would have rested them as per the initial plan. That's what they did too Gautam who scored two consecutive 90+. I am not debating to resting in some games, it's abalanced plan, but i am debating about the extreme step of retirement, of perfroming player like Sachin who has been highest scorer for India in 2011 WC. I don't understand the age thing at all. What's wrong if Sachin keeps top scoring in some series and knocking enough runs in forthcoming series when he is 40 or 41.

There is too big a risk involved here. Backing up big names has led to the current downfall of Indian Cricket. To me, SRT is just another player when it comes to picking the playing XI. If Tiwari, Pandey or Pathan is playing better then SRT, I would not hesitate axing SRT for the sake of team.

We need to come out of the shadows of these Cricket giants that our nation has produced. At the end of the day, your performance counts and nothing else if you want to adorn Indian blue.

If SRT is that great, then may be he should show it with his bat. Reading past record books is f***ing boring.

PS. My post might come across harsh in case you did not notice..... don't mean any bad blood or ill feelings towards anyone! Rules are rules for everyone and SRT is no exception. Period.
