With the "suspended" parts of the sentance if all of them are "good boys" they could all be back in 5 years.
Basically the minimum sentance for all
Pathetic decision.
I hope the ICC appeal
Five years is a long time for a professional cricketer, especially a pace bowler....
It's effectively ended the careers of Butt and Asif. When the bans end, they'll be too old to make a comeback.
Edward Mills Grace wrote:Some nice righteous indignation, but the problem is, if you give "life" bans (a phrase brought completely into disrepute by the Pakistan Cricket Board last year in any case) for spot fixing, what do you do when somebody actually does fix matches? What you're actually demanding if you say "any cheating = life ban" is that there is execution and there is "getting away with it" and no points in between. There is not a civilised justice system in the world that would accept that notion.
Instead we have bans for the two senior players that effectively ends their international careers in disgrace even if they undertake the anti-corruption programme, and for the teenager who has been corrupted in their presence, a lengthy ban with the possiblitiy of rehabilitation at the end. It's a damn sight more than a slap on the wrist, but at the same time, an outcome that avoids posturing, rhetoric and, again, righteous indignation. A punishment,in short, that fits the crime.

I'd have said 10 years would be perfectly reasonable.

Hes the most pathetic cheat drug abusing clown to play the game, the pcb have done everything to get him to play despite his history. I hope he never plays cricket again

That's a separate issue.
Just because few cricketers from a cricket playing nation fix a match does it warrant to accuse the whole nation? Pakistan Spot Fixing??
