South Africa Vs Australia odis & Tests

[andy]

Hazelwood has 5! What a ball to get Harmer! 201-8

[andy]

Australia win first test by 214 runs

[mikesiva]

South Africa 206 all out

Markram 75
Bedingham 46

Hazelwood 6-49

[Arthur Crabtree]

Well done Aussies!

[andy]

South Africa have dropped Tristan Stubbs announcing Matthew Breetzke has been called into the squad...and Ryan Rickelton will be taking the gloves assuming that means Kyle Verryenne will be dropped as well

[andy]

The Stubbs decision is a bit of a shocker...the last test SA played before this one was India and he scored 94 and two tests before that he made 70 odd in Rawalpindi

any word on Rabada's return?

Him being in the last two tests will give SA a real boost.

[andy]

Apparently will be fit for the second test

[andy]

Australia have won the toss and chosen to bowl,

Boland in for Lyon

South Africa three changes

Ackerman, Breetzke and Rabada in

Verryenne, Maharaj and Stubbs out

Interesting Harmer over Maharaj

To be fair to the selectors, Stubbs has played 15 Tests and has a disappointing average of 30. Since the start of 2025, he's batted 13 times and only scored two half centuries in that time.

Cummins wins the toss and will bowl in overcast conditions on a patchy pitch.

Boland in for Lyon.

Rain has delayed the start

[andy]

Play will start in 45 mins apparently

[mikesiva]

Rickelton fell early but SA get to the close 1 down....crowds way down and light always an issue in Durban...seems their focus has shifted towards T20 in terms of crowd support?

Very disappointing crowd in Durban. Already, the first day in Gqeberha has produced a better crowd on the first day, despite the rainy weather.

There are so many reasons to stop playing Tests in Durban.

Poor crowds
Pitch that's slow and not conducive to exciting batting
Daily loss of about 20 overs each day to bad light.

Durban should stick to limited overs cricket.

[andy]

Lunch taken early as rain arrived again SA 11-0

[andy]

More rain with SA 20-2 I'm sorry but Boland has to play he simply has to, he is too good to leave out
