Looks as if the weather is the only thing that can save Pakistan at this point. Amazing really after the summer so far...

Suggestions that the PCB have been threatening to call off the tour during this Test over Sky broadcasting an interview with relatives of former Pakistan cricketer/ PM Imran Khan, who is a political prisoner.

Another non-contest really. Pakistan have sort of turned up with the ball in this one - but their fielders keep letting them down so unable to really make it count on a pitch that is once again a little too helpful to the bowlers. At least this Test will stretch to 4 days -maybe 5 ! But credit the weather for that... They just don't have an adequate batting line up for a Test Match.

I don't want to take anything away from the England bowlers. As a unit they have been excellent. Robinson is having an absolute party on these pitches that really suit his style , Archer seems to have rediscovered the sort of sustained pace he showed in his early Test appearances , Tongue keeps producing deadly deliveries and Atkinson is surely going to get a reward for his persistence sooner or later. But until they have to bowl on more batsman friendly surfaces and against more solid opposition we can't assume all the bowling problems are solved (still going to need to fit in a spinner at times - finding a good one would be a start). Still the signs are good and for that we should be thankful - and fingers crossed for an injury free run ?

England probably already have a big enough lead. But Gay and Lawrence both need big runs so there will be a measure of tension for them at least. Otherwise I hate these third innings in which we are mostly waiting for a declaration.

Umpires after being 13-0 ahead at Trent Bridge for reviews have got a fair few wrong here. And Joe Root takes the Shane Watson Award for a wasted batting lbw review call :)

Lead 357 at the end of day 3. Should be plenty, but while Lawrence is still batting no reason not to bat on for a bit longer to completely close the door - provided the weather holds. Obviously if the overheads are still bowler friendly on Sunday England will want to get stuck in.

Sounds as if Lawrence did well to come through a tough period.

Lawrence played well. Surprised me actually , because it was far from easy out there . Umpires and ground staff did a great job getting as much play as they did despite all that rain.

Reckon they'll bat on (depending how much more time is lost to rain of course !) for a while, because should be plenty of time to bowl Pakistan out and I can't see the pitch suddenly getting way easier. The longer Pakistan have to toil in the field the harder it will be for them to muster second innings resistance.
