Disappointing as it is, I never believed England deserved to win this tournament. It's like the run in 2024 - moments of brilliance punctuated long periods of fairly uninspired football. And as a result, the team never looked convincing. With the quality England have up front, that can get you through against average teams, but against the best you get found out.

I am disappointed by the tactics. Even at 80 minutes, it just seemed inevitable that an equaliser was coming if England just continued to sit deep. You can't let a team as creative as Argentina keep having opportunities. But there was no press, no contest in the midfield, nothing. Every time England cleared or won the ball back, they just gave it straight back to an Argentina player and it started again.

They did look very jaded towards the end. If I'm being kind, they were probably knackered after Mexico City and extra time against Norway - and they were already struggling with injuries and coming off the back of a ludicrously long domestic season. But these players are professional athletes who maintain high-paced, physical games week in week out for Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Bayern, Barcelona etc. and compete at the very top of their game. Why they can't do it in an England shirt (and haven't for 30 years) continues to baffle me.

so there you have it.... it takes someone who knows nothing about football a few minutes to understand what people with years and years of experience stubbornly refuse to grasp
