Although I would have had Wyatt batting at 5 and dunkley at 6....surprised Capsey is batting 5....Wyatt prefers the newer ball would have been ideal her being in now

England set themselves a target of a semi final place and they achieved that, so when they get over the disappointment of tody's result, they will think that's a job well done. But really it isn't..... set the bar low enough and athletes can clear anything. Going out at the group stage would have been seen as a disaster, so this result just means they avoided a disaster and that should never have been a target they set themselves. A place in the final would have been the only target that meant anything, but they'll come home and the administrators, coach and captain will pat themselves on the back and convince themselves that they are in a good place, when really they came uncomfortably close to that disaster of a group stage exit that would have meant that no progress had been made after all the heads had rolled

However, the creation of tier 1 cricket teams domestically does at least provide hope of widening the player pool in the future, so all is not yet lost.

The batting depth is a worry it's a constant reliance on Beaumont and sciver.....others need to step up we also need a left hander or two it's too predictable and easy for bowlers to settle on a line and length.....

I'm not quite so down DFM. Today was disappointing Ng for sure, but England came nowhere close to the disaster of a group stage exit. The bowling until today has been up there with the tournament's best, and the fielding has improved. It's the batting that has let them down if Knight and SB don't score.

Disappointing yesz but I think they're a better side than they were six months ago. Some progress has been made. Question now will be can it continue?

I probably am being harsh, because they finshed second in the groups, but they very nearly lost to Bangladesh, with only a remarkably composed innings from Knight saving them and on another day and another 3rd umpire she could have been out twice early on. They would have lost to Pakistan without the gift of rain, without any shadow of a doubt. Had those results gone against them I fear that the jeopardy of a must win against India might have seen them not manage to hold out for a narrow win at the end and then all bets would have been off in terms of qualification

Yes they have improved from that 16-0 thrashing by Australia..... crikey... how could they not, but they are still a completely hit and miss, sh1t or bust outfit continually flirting with defeat against anybody, anywhere. You'd have to be an idiot to put money on England beating anyone at the moment, because there are just too many weak links in the squad and even when things are going well in a game, it feels like catastrophe is just one loose shot away...... and I know this, because I follow Durham and I see week in, week out how poor form, lack of confidence, lack of preparation and sloppy decision making can quickly turn a game on its head in a very negative way. With Durham you can physically see the fear kick in when things begin to slide, and my guess is you can see that with England too. The solution to dealing with that starts with preparation and sound decision making, because without those the rest hasn't got a hope and every game becomes a will they, won't they lottery. The new domestic set up will undoubtedly help improve the basics and hopefully bring some more consistency, but they're a long way from that place atm

We could easily be having this same conversation with the England men in a few weeks time

Not sure I can agree. If you compare the last 6 months to the 2022-25 decline disaster.

England have lost once against BD/Pakistan and Sri Lanka combined in the history of WODI cricket (in the best part of 40 plus matches), the fact that they would have lost to Pakistan and beat BD by the absolute skin of their teeth doesn't reflect well in comparison to any time in history, considering neither team have ever beaten England. NZ got battered in England last year, and the margin of victory in the WC was exceeded in 2024 once, and matched exactly in the 2nd game, so the results of the game actually show no improvement to the period before the Ashes Whitewash.

England finished about on par with India in 2022-25 WODI Championship and are ranked higher in T20/ODI rankings - they lost both LOs series at home, so overall in 6 months have a losing record against them.

SA lost to England in the 22-25 Championship.... they knocked us out here.

England were the only team to beat Australia in 26 bilateral WODI series in the last 22-25 cycle.... we lost to them here.

Not sure I see where the improvement is within the context.

2 years ago, South Africa (Women) were definite second tier at best. After making the final of the T20 WC, and then beating Australia handily, to then beat England so convincingly to at least make the final of the OD WC is a huge result for them.

Of course I want Aus to win today and beat SA in the final, but it will be a huge result for women's cricket globally if SA get up again.
