Durham Match Thread 2025

Women had another shocker but the first half of the men's T20 campaign has gone surprisingly well. Yorkshire off to a flyer in the PP tonight but I was always fairly confident that score would be enough - Potts had a nightmare in the previous game but the bowling has been generally effective and he was back in the groove tonight.
Overseas signings proving effective.

well, that was as comprehensive a win as I think I've ever seen at the Riverside in all the years that I've been burying my head in my hands, or walking out in disgust

we dominated that game pretty much from start to finish. I raised an eyebrow when we only took 7 runs off the first two overs and I raised another when Yorks hit their first overs for 24, but apart from that there were no alarums.... none.... at all. I kept waiting for the wheels to fall off, but they didn't, at any point in the game. Even when Clark and Ackermann fell in the same over, Neesham and Robbo just carried on where the other two left off

and the back end of Yorkshire's innings was just plain farcical. swinging and missing, skied catches that just evaded fielders, muddled and confused running, wickets falling every over.... it was like watching the Keystone Cops. It's usually us that do that stuff, but not today

Adam Lyth was looking likely to be the thorn in our side (as he always is), but he was caught out backing up, so when the ball was smacked straight back at Parky, it hit him and glanced onto Lyth's stumps... pure fluke.... hard *modded* lines. We had a very narrow, last over win last year and Lyth was the one who was flogging us to all parts and there's a bit of me that thinks that he was run out in that game too, off a sensational long distance throw from Nathan Sowter and then Yporks fell apart in spectacular fashion.... I may be wrong about that run out... it might have been off a sensational caught and bowled from Sowter that saw him race almost to the boundary to snaffle Lyth up. The two incidents came within a few balls of each other

I particularly enjoyed Parky's celebration at the Lyth run out..... must have run 200 metres

who was that Pakistani spinner that played for us one year and ended up missing the QF because he didn't go on the coach and got stuck in traffic? He used to go on runs like that, but I can't remember his name

Rumours Jofra Archer is in the Sussex side for tomorrow for the match.

Chances Sussex end up playing with ten for the game after his 5th over?

besides there's every chance he'll have forgotten what he's supposed to do

If he does play, do you think this is England shoehorning him into the side because they're worried about India in a couple of weeks time and they haven't got a clue what his red ball bowling looks like anymore?

I walked around to my usual 'hot day' seat last night and got stopped just before I got there, by stewards standing there with ropes stretched across the concourse. For a moment I thought I was going to have walk all the way back around the ground to sit where I wanted to, but then young Jonny Blameless walked through to the indoor nets and the ropes were put away again

I discovered later that Yorks were using the indoor net area as their dressing room, because when they arrived the visitors dressing room was occupied by Essex women, but I have no idea why the concourse was roped off whenever YJBlameless wanted to walk through. They don't do that up the players steps, they didn't do that for Shane Warne or Freddie Flintoff.... they didn't do that for the Aussie ashes team

clearly Jonny B is a cut above that shower

England would be mad to play him in a test when he hasnt bowled more than 4 overs in a game in years....

they'd be *modded* mad to choose to bowl on the hottest two days of the year

No overseas players for us tomorrow. Wagner has a calf injury- a slight one according to Campbell but he'll miss the next game as well. Yusuf and Bedingham on International duty.

The Wagner injury might just be bad luck but the one concern about him is his age. He's a fantastic bowler but ...

at least this the ageing overseas bowler got crocked before being selected to play rather than 1 over into the match

I presume we have Potts. We rested Ben Raine (at least I hope we were resting him) last night and we have Old George. Maybe Sam Connors is fit now? Maybe we'll play 2 spinners and draft Parky back into the side. Presumably Will Rhodes will be back into the side, so we won't have to play two teenagers (three in the last outing thanks to the concussion law and a set of pedantic umpires and officials) against an in form batting unit again

Hey.... maybe Bas will play.... I've missed his bowling in the Dribble

Coggers, of course.... I always forget about him. He was the player they wouldn't allow to come on in the final innings because they said he was an allrounder and not a bowler, so wasn't like for like.... even though there was no batting to do

I'm wrong actually... Hoggy did indeed bat at 11 in our second innings. For some reason I've been believing that the Yusuf concussion was confirmed on the final morning before play started

Bas has been playing T20 for the seconds and prior to that was playing ODI's for Holland, so he has had some cricket
