That's a big vote of confidence. Probably justified too.

With Potts and Carse figuring in the England reckoning, there will surely be opportunities for him next season

Definitely. Carse has been a revelation, an inconsistent performer at county level but looks like a world beater In international cricket.

I see that Lord ITB has been shipped further upstairs (presumably into the loft) to make a space for Phil Collins to take over as the new DCCC chairman

hopefully Phil has an invisible touch, won't let us get in too deep and, against all odds, will help us become county champions in 2025

Will Carse suddenly improve in county cricket or will he be only good overseas?

It depends on what pitches he gets, I suppose. On the county circuit he's been expensive in the past, but successful county bowlers find ways of adapting their game to the pitches they face. Carse may be perfectly capable of doing that, the question is whether England will want him to. They have a range of different bowlers with varying skill sets, so for them it may just be about picking the right bowlers for the conditions rather than the bowlers having to adapt.

They also won't care about whether he improves in county cricket. All they'll want is for him to stay fit and get some miles in his legs ahead of the next international. Whether his figures are any good will be of little interest to them

It's different with Potts, because any chances of selection he gets for the test team will be dependent on his form at the time, so he will be of great use to Durham, because he'll be busting a gut trying to push his name forward. Carse will no more have to do that than Mark Wood does, but he will be allowed to play, whereas Woody isn't

Article in The Cricketer saying we want to sign Boland again but there's a lot of uncertainty about his availability. CA might not sanction the move.
