Good that Rohit is unavailable for the first test. Not having much hopes from him. Struggling for runs against Matt Henry and William in Indian conditions. Guess what Starc, Pat and Josh would do to him in Australian conditions.

on the Australia team side of things, the most interest is all around the replacement for Warner as opener.

We started some months ago with media discussion of who might move up the order (including talk of Smith staying there). It seems events have sorted that view for them, with Smith either stating he wants back at 4, or teammates saying they want him back at 4, or selectors saying they want him back at 4.

Whatever the truth of the matter is, Smith will be back at 4.

Then there was the precocious upstart Sam Konstas - a 19 year old with bugger all 1st class experience under his belt that suddenly was the new hot thing. Media attention has done him no favours and he has not hit more than 16 runs in a innings (I think) since the media discovered him. This 16 was against India A in the game currently under way.

Tried (often) and discarded (an equal number of times) prospects such as Matt Renshaw, Cameron Bancroft and Marcus Harris (please, PLEASE do not select this one) have done nothing to suggest they deserve consideration - aside from Bancroft, and his form from last year.

Which, in my opinion, leaves Nathan McSweeney, a young Number 3 batsman for South Australia who is touted as a future Australia captain. He has been picked as captain in the Ind A v Aus A match. Top scored in the first innings with 39 and has almost reached that in the second innings chase. I think the selectors can do far worse than giving hima try for a the series - and letting him know that he has some tests to make his mark.

Labuschagne does not fill me with confidence - whereas I feel more confident with McSweeney opening. I am showing no logic, I know.

Aus selectors have announced the team and squad for the series. Big interest was in the opening spot to replace Warner. Of four talked about candidates, who were all in the Aus A/Ind A two "test" series, Nathan McSweeney was probably the most consistent, and got the opening spot. McSweeney is in reality, replacing Cameron Green, as Smith had been in the opening spot, and he moves back down the order to fill Green's spot - as the team is the same as last test last summer except for Green.

2 squad members are Josh Inglis and Scott Boland. Surely this ageing trio of fast bowlers can't play all fives tests...?

Aussie commentary is on BBC.

Presume Aussies will leave out Inglis and Boland from the squad.
I always say that everybody's right.

Seen a lot of criticism that McSweeney bats at glacial paces, and has a limited range of strokes. Personally I would love to see him do well for that reason..... getting some old fashioned grit in a side seems like a novelty nowadays in this era of T20 bazballing.

You'd expect on pitches with bounce, that Boland will come in. When he has carry, he looks deadly, when he doesn't he looks a bit meh.

Bumrah wins the toss and elects to bat.

No Jadeja, which I find surprising. Is he injured?

Indian batsmen playing as expected. I am surprised KL Rahul has survived and has scored 20+. The 4th wicket may fall very soon.
