I think its in that blind spot, isnt it. As you say most people trigger to the offside, and stand still to play off the legs rather than move to it, so the head is always pointing offside.
I really struggled to play off my pads back when I first took up batting. Always felt like you were putting the bat there in hope more than expectation.
