Essex really aren't happy about this bat situation, calling the ECB "absolutely stupid". I guess the ECB had no choice, regardless if its a bat maker error in production, as they set precedents before.

Still, I cant really work out the ECB points deduction system.

12 points for using an illegal bat if your an Essex player
10 points for using an illegal bat if you are Durham player
16 points for using an illegal bat if you are a Derbys player (well, they had a OD win scrubbed, so the equivalent of a won game)
16 points for tapping your bat on the pitch when getting out and a game ban if you are from Sussex.

Judging on what I have read, Essex appealed the decision and requested a formal hearing, and the ECB ended up producing some huge dossier to back their decision, which took months. Then again, there are suggestions in the report that the batting gauges they used to measure the bat were acknowledged as being faulty, which is one of the reasons Essex appealed and are so upset about it.

Maybe the extra 2 points was because they appealed?

min 12 overs remain, but Somerset are dealing exclusively in spin, so I imagine they are miles ahead of the over rate and there may well be half a dozen more than 12 overs in this game. Somerset have a real chance here
