certainly we don't seem to have any cabs on the rank, atm, from our younger players. Nobody is busting the door down to get into our senior side

We have to have cover in place in case Robbo gets the call too. Then there's Bedders if SA get a summer tour (I don't know if they do) and I don't know for how long he has a contract with us either, or whether he'd want to sign an extension if we were a club only just about hanging on in the first division

Agreed on all counts. There could well be uncertainty over Bedingham . It does have a Notts signing feel and ideally the Academy would be producing more players.
I wonder if there's a chance Gay could join for the last batch of red ball games? Northants second bottom in Div 2 so presumably not in the promotion race.
Makes tomorrow's game more interesting. Will be flourish on the dreaded pitch?

According to The Cricketer Gay probably won't play the remaining RL50 games but will feature in the remaining CC ones. Again the take is slightly less definitive than cricinfo - says Durham are favourites but he has been linked with Warwickshire in the past.

that's annoying about Bedders. At first I thought he'd be back for the last 3 games, but that's a WI tour and doesn't feature any ODI's. according to that article SA have matches from 31/8 to the middle of Sept

Been listening to the latest episode of The Analyst podcast - Simon Hughes. He's interviewing Tim Bostock who goes into so much detail about a potential Hundred franchise and Saudi investment that both must be a done deal. Sounds as if the only question is when it'll be formally announced.

you can tell how time Bostock spends at the club, because he arranged his interview in the same part of the ground as Jamie the shouty man.... that's basic stuff

he mentioned 14 counties within 5 years a couple of times, which is catastrophy justification theory, because I'll bet you there are still 18 counties in 5 years time. He wants a free hotel and the chance to line his pockets before he ssipes off back to Australia

I was particularly struck by his tale of people going up to him to thank him for being great........ uh, huh :?

Michael Jones joining Lancashire on a long-term contract. There were rumours about that but I wondered about them - he wouldn't be a regular in our line-up ( especially if Rhodes and Gay are here. ) but will he get into Lancs starting X1 on a regular basis? I could be wrong but just assumed their squad would be at the very least as strong as ours.

Jones came from Lancs, of course, which if I'm honest, I'd forgotten

He did pretty well for us last year, but only for about half a season. Presumably Gay is seen as a div 1 upgrade

also suggests that we don't expect Lees to get an England call up any time soon and if he does, we still have Borthwick for another year to come in at 3 if Rhodes has to move up the order. We still have options without retaining the corporal
