I wasn't sure why we played Bas in this game. 3 ball duck and didn't bowl. I think I commented last week that we looked a more balanced side with Jones opening, Borthwick at 3 and Ackers at 6, so we dropped Jones and moved Borthwick and Ackers back to 2 and 3 in order to fit Bas in at 8.... and then not bowl him.

Borthwick just can't open. He gets shot out almost immediately and we are on the back foot from the off. I remain to be convinced by Ackers at 3. It all feels a bit muddled

Agreed. I couldn't understand the selection either. Ackermann and Borthwick are probably past their prime - still useful but likely to fail in the top 3 against division 1 bowlers.

Bedingham has come out to bat, at least. Hasn't faced a ball yet, because one ball later the rain came down, but presumably he is fit to bat. That didn't appear certain last night

Apparently he has Borthwick as a runner. I think you're right, forecast looks a little better around 5pm but persistent drizzle seems to be the order of the day.
I wonder what would constitute a stiff target? If things remain the same 150 might be tricky!

forget what I said about Ben Raine yesterday. After this match it rather looks as though our entire senior team seam bowling stocks will comprise of Raine, Coughlin, de Leede, Gibson, Glover, with the small matter of Surrey and Somerset to play away, home games with Notts and Lancs and what might well be a must win match with Kent if we don't win today

I wonder if anyone has had a conversation with Ben Dwarshius? Although that would probably clash with pre-season in Oz.

I think we need a plan. Either a new overseas recruit or a load of used pitches and pack the side with spinners. Although come to think of it, when we made our overseas plans for the year, we did know that Boland would be going after this match, so it's likely we have another lined up

Certainly need one. A really tough series of fixtures.
Makes a win in this game even more important. You'd think - unless things change significantly- it should be a tough chase even if the last wicket goes down first thing tomorrow.
