Be very surprised at this point.
When he first broke through he played a lot of T20 franchise cricket, and did very well in Australia just before Covid. He then blamed his lack of form on Covid lockdowns and pulled out a few leagues, and I think Brisbane Heat were upset they signed him and he didnt turn up, so he never played in Australia again. And he has slowly lost all his contracts in Franchise cricket, to the point he is now only playing in the UAE and England, with the former being a low standard competition.
I think he does ok for Somerset in T20s but his form in the 100 has been incredibly poor. I think last season he hardly scored a run.... hence why he is now trying to turn into a 4 day player. He scored a 100 in the 4 day game this season, but I think also a lot of failures.
I don't recall the exact year, but i had him in yearly Fantasy League after the initial promise he showed in some series or tournament. He played in IPL too for KKR after PSL. Had a very poor IPL. This season he isn't doing good in Vitality Blast FL and there also he is scoring very few points.
His T20i strike rate is 147 in combination with bat avg. of 23.35. SR is very good but his batting average needs to be better. Some leeway can be given that he can keep for England in future, so it is fine if his bat avg is couple of basis points lower than other specialist batters having that strike rate? But then Phil Salt is scoring at 166 and he had success
Then Jos is scoring at 145 and he has so much success across T20 leagues. Jonny too is scoring at 136 and has experience and knack of scoring significant innings. So Tom has lot of tough competitors in T20i and probably even in ODI.Test format, Ben Foakes was very impressive with glove work. I doubt Tom Banton will be as good as Ben Foakes on basis of what i have seen ben keep in test series against India in India. Guess someone must be there in test keepers waiting list between Ben Foakes and Tom Banton and i won't be surprised if its a longer list considering he was more suited to short format batting.
