The Professor wrote:Awful pitch

Considering the pace Nortje was bowling, we are lucky none of the SL's were seriously injured.

There was one passage of play between Nortje/Rabada's overs where 4 balls pitched roughly the same back of a length area in the space of 2 overs... one got to neck height, one ended up half volley territory, one flew over the stumps comfortably, another hit the stump about 1-2 balls distance from the bails. Lost count of how many balls bounced considerably.

People are complaining the pitch is substandard because of the scoring rate, but someone is going to get killed facing up to serious pace bowling if this pitch stays like this for all 8 matches at the venue.

Expensive first over for Jordan. Scotland doing ok if this is going to be a low scoring game.

Seen some grumblings that certain teams are really not happy with the arrangements at the tournament, with SL apparently lodging a formal complaint.

After being forced to play their warm up game in Florida and being promised prompt transport to New York afterwards, the chartered plane was signficantly delayed, only arriving at 5am the day before the game. The pre-game practice session had to be then cancelled as a result, with SL also apparently upset that their hotel is 90 minutes from the practice venue they have been allocated, a significant barrier to being able to train.

In contrast, it has been highlighted that the bigger sides have less long distance travel, better facilities allocated, and hotels that are closer...... no suprise for guessing the random allocation of venues means India play almost all their games at the same venue, got allocated the hotel next to the practice facility, and the best standards seemingly.

What are the chances?

Back on. 10 over game. Presume England will get a few extra DL runs to chase too.

Rashid will bowl overs 8 and 10.

India opt to bowlHave Your Say

Teams:
India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj

Ireland (Playing XI): Paul Stirling(c), Andrew Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker(w), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Joshua Little, Benjamin White

Surprised to see Yashasvi not picked as opener. One of Yuzvendra Chahal or Kuldeep should have been picked. Actually they could have picked both. Bad selection imo. Not the first time selection blunders have cost us World Cups wins.
Test FL's - 8 , ODI and Tests Combo FL's - 1, ODI World Cup - 1, ODI FL's - 7, ODI and T20i combo FL's - 1 ,
