Is there any pressure on him to keep his place in India, MIB? Or are India giving him a lot of time to settle into test cricket?

He looks a quality prospect in so many ways, but its test 21 for him this game, and the average just above 30 isn't good enough. Needs to start scoring runs soon or he will end up a LO specialist.

I think if I bowled a rank long hop like that and got a batsman out, I'd be embarrassed to appeal.

Yeah i didnt understand the celebrations from Hartley!! I also dont understand why he bowled more overs than Leach, I'd like to think unless he dramatically improves that we might see Anderson or Robinson in for the next test instead of him

Shubman has cemented his place in ODI format /playing 11which has been his best.

In T20 he managed to up his game on 2023 as compared to 2022.

Test format is the one where he has not settled into. But he is being groomed as a player who will serve Indian cricket for long career. As such he is being backed although his test runs havent been enough.

Cheteshwar Pujara isn't coming back imo and playing Shubman is anytime a better optiom than going back to Ajinkya Rahane even if he has a good domestic.

If at all KL and Shreyas do well in two tests and Virat comes back for third, i think India will still play Shubman by dropping Shikhar Bharat and gloves being handed to KL Rahul. So that is one way to keep playing Shubman even if he doesnt scores in next test too. I would even like him to be given a long run pickimg him over KL and Shreyas.

BCCI is backing him as the best Indian talent in this team from the new lot post Prithvi Shaw. So pressure from the selection point of vjew is not much of concern imo. There are / will be series when Rohit is rested or injured and Virat will be given rest. So Shubman will play most of the tests imo. Yes, i also think there is pressure of scoring runs already on him.

100 lead for India. Defining stand between Jadeja and Bhatia as they close in on 100 partnership.

Only one winner from here, I'd guess.

as an aside, I wonder what England's over rate is given that they've bowled 80 overs of spin?

England's attack just isn't going to get enough runs to bowl at in the series. Though given how dry the pitch is supposed to be, the spinners could have done better.

Just that having lived through generations of Indian batters knocking off tons and double tons at will, on home pitches, this scoreboard, in isolation, doesn't look terrible for the tourists.
I always say that everybody's right.

132 runs lead is significant. Much needed cover as India would be batting on day 4 and 5.

Would be glad to see scire of 450 though.
