I'll just go right ahead.... best ODI innings I have ever seen. Got to be right up there with all time, all format also..... game was totally lost, I have no idea how he's done that.

:o *picks jaw up from floor* :o

Agree with the superlatives here, that must be right up there with the very best innings of all time, in any form of cricket. From 7 down, 200 needed to make that chase was just extraordinary. :clap

A few stats to underline just how amazing it was:
Highest score for Australia in ODIs
First time an ODI double century scored in the second innings
First time an ODI double century scored by a batter who wasn't opening the innings
Second fastest ODI double century
Highest partnership for 7th or lower wicket in ODIs
Highest score successfully chased after the 7th wicket had fallen for fewer than 100 runs (not even close - next highest was 211)
Most runs added by a team after fall of 7th wicket
Australia's highest ODI run chase at a world cup (that one surprised me).

Statistically this knock by Viv Richards often gets called out as the best ODI innings ever - WI were 11 for 2 when he came in, then 102 for 7, then 166 for 9, and Viv scored 189 not out taking them to 272, and only one other player on either side managed over 26 runs. Was this better than that? Might well have been https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/wes ... -scorecard

To be fair, they dropped Maxwell twice. Once was pretty straightforward. Sometimes when you're on the receiving end of an amazing performance you can only tip your hat in awe, but they do have themselves to blame for letting him off.

So Australia locked in to play South Africa in one semi, and Afghanistan, Pakistan and New Zealand scrapping for the right to lose to India in the other. New Zealand still have the advantage with the best NRR and a very winnable final game, while Afghanistan are really up against it with the lowest NRR and South Africa to play.

Technically the Netherlands are not yet eliminated, and may still be live going into the final round if they beat England...

Maybe this WC is a good argument for opening the competition up to a few other sides.

Extraordinary effort from Maxwell : can't add anything to what's been said above. Only saw it in highlights as I'd switched off after the Afghan innings but such a stunning change from 91/7 to that innings still leaves me rather stunned. Probably the Afghan bowlers likewise...

Still got to decide fourth place so this round-robin is keeping things alive to the end , despite many comments of "boring , all settled too early" having been thrown around a couple of weeks ago. And of course the same goes for the struggle at the other end of the table to qualify for the Champions Trophy. England have a chance to avoid total humiliation tonight : wonder whether fear of defeat or a will to salvage some pride will help or bury them ?

Am hearing threats to NZ's last game from the weather , which could undermine their hopes and leave them relying on SA and England taking care of Afghanistan and Pakistan in the last matches. Would be horribly cruel to the Kiwis if a washout did scupper their chances - especially after they got the rough end of a DLS result the other day so hope their game doesn't get totally wrecked.

The innings were longer back then (55 or 60 overs), so more time to get set before the assault, and more overs to score. Its impossible to find the information, but a video of the knock I found with the scoreboard suggests Windies added 50-60 in those extra innings, and pretty much all Viv.... so if we compare like for like, 140-150 with a worst strike in the 50 overs would have been a truer indication.

I remember watching Viv's effort. It was the first international match I watched on TV and it didn't get much better after that!
