Looks like a different top 4 this year with Chealski and Liverpool looking like solid mid teams. Perhaps only City retaining their top 4 finish from last year.

I have two Everton fan friends, and both remained insist he's done alright until the last 3-4 games, when they turned. Losses to Southampton and West Ham had to be it....they had to change it.

Of course, I'd suggest the main thing the board got wrong was appointing a celebrity boss with zero managerial pedigree. He was terrible at Chelsea, and bankrupted Derby in a failed attempt to get promoted.

Why do PL teams appoint talent like that just because he was a brilliant player? Surely there are managers in league two more qualified

In saying that I'm not sure many managers would want the Everton job at present.

Favourite at present is Dyche.

I get why a lower league club might hire a Lampard. Has some connections, might be able to persuade Chelsea to release a few players on loan for cheap that benefit the club. But at the highest level, why would you ever give your club to a manager with no positive experience? He has been clueless in both spells he's had in the PL, he changed formation every week, has no style, the players dont seem happy.... watch him walk into a top Championship club next week

Wayne Rooney is 2nd bookies favourite for the Everton job They apparently approached him on Sunday to discuss the job.

I mean, he relegated Derby. And is struggling in MLS.

has it anything to do with fair play rules? Do really long contracts reduce the annual cost to the club and free up payments to players or something silly like that? I don't understand it all....... or perhaps I should say that I have almost as little an understanding of it as the administrators who are charged with monitoring Barcelona's annual accounts

I wrote this in response to the length of contracts offered to managers, because I'd read that one of the loopholes in the FFP rules was length of contracts for players. Well seemingly Chelsea have sparked UEFA into action, because of the length of contracts that they've recently been offering players... 7 or 8 years in some cases. What this means is that despite signing Mudryk for 89 million his 8 and a half year contract means he's an 11 million pound player for FFP purposes

UEFA have decided to nip this in the bud and bring in a change to the ruling, effective in the summer, so that only a max 5 years of a contract will be taken into account. UEFA are gradually shifting from FFP to Financial sustainability anyway, apparently, and they feel that excessively long contracts allow clubs to further saddle themselves with long term debt and undermines the reasons for the shift towards club sustainability

It became in vogue recently to do this in USA sports where you have salary caps. They put what they call "voidable" years into a contract, so if you want to pay a player a massive short term deal you say 50 million over 6 years, all the money is spread evenly so it does not impact the salary cap, then after a pre-determined point (say 2 years), the player can void the deal and is guaranteed all the money under it.. or essentially, he signs a 2 year deal for 25 million a year, with all the remaining money hitting the cap as dead value in the 3rd year, but the idea is by that stage the team have shed enough costs to absorb it.

Slightly different in football, but I cannot see how a club that pays fully upfront is allowed to amortise the cost of an asset over multiple accounting years.. that to me is fraud. Of course, amortisation is a useful tool of accounting for the falling asset value of what you own (for instance a company car will decline continually in value, and you can account for that value with amortising it)..... but that is not this, is it? This is flat out lying to cook the books. I dont see how its legal

The situation at Everton becomes progressively worse and worse, as their owner decides he's had enough of being abused by the fans, and has said he will sell the club.

Who in their right mind would take that job at the moment? The team is crap, the owner wants out the door, they have a big stadium debt, and with the owner looking for a buyer they will no doubt have no money to invest in the squad.

Does Dyche really want to burn himself with that job? I can't see Bielsa, a guy who would walk into a lot of jobs, being interested in this disaster show either

Having said he'll sell the club for £500million, it sounds as though he's basically thrown the money he initially paid for the club down the toilet, but then I am a bit dim. I'll probably find that he made a packet throwing that sort of cash away

That could be an interesting final.
