With no sign of any actual cricket for quite a while yet, just a thought for a game we can play in these isolated times:
My cricket captain game has an 'all-time greats' setting, where you can pick a country's starting eleven from your chosen eighteen man selected out of their best ever players. Your team would face off against a similarly chosen XI from XVIII of another country, in a multitude of five-match test series, both home and away.
Managers would need to select players in their 18-man squads who could cover all situations: from an early season, green New-Zealand seamer in overcast conditions to a Sri Lankan Bunsen in the decisive fifth match of a series, with an unfit number one wicket-keeper!
Managers would pick the initial team line-up from their chosen squad for the first match in each of their five match rubbers. Teams for the remaining 4 matches would be picked automatically, with the game-engine selecting any required injury replacements
My initial thoughts for our game would be to have between 8 and 10 players selecting their all-time teams from the main test playing nations* - then playing in a round robin tournament scheduled between 14 and 18 rounds - so assuming a midweek and a weekend fixture for each country, between 7 and 9 weeks.
I would run the series in cricket captain virtual mode, post the results via screenshots, and then formulate a table.
Anybody wanting/willing to participate please let me know here
PS: My only stipulation is that I get to play as England.
* Aus, Eng, Ind, NZ, Pak, SA, SL & WI (8) - Ban & Zim (10)
Sports broadcasting media nut miscast as a hard-working family man. Or should that be the other way around?
