Bancroft should be in action soon. Second innings of the Ashes warmup game will soon be underway.

not often that I hope for a failure for a Durham player, but this time I do

Haddin XI skittled for 105, so it could be awful for us if Bangers made a big score for the Hick XI... especially if Burns was also to fail

Yep. Although if he does get called up for the Ashes we will have the opportunity to find out this contingency plan that is supposed to be in place. Let's hope though plan b is not needed.

What sort of pitch are they playing on? 95/6 so 16 wickets gone down so far.

trialling these new concrete pitches, favoured by the ECB to neutralise England's deficiency in the playing of spin, I think

seemingly, last week's attendance was our highest ever for a T20 match against a team not called Yorkshire

I guess that answers the question about world cup bounce, but also begs the question of whether or not we can play well enough to maintain it

Yep. It'd have been interesting to see how big a crowd it would have been had the weather been better.
Probably the famous last words but I think we might be competitive at home with those big boundaries and low scoring games. On the road could be a different story- was watching the Roses match tonight on TV and the commentators were saying 170 in the first innings was below par- it turned out to be enough but if we were facing that sort of score I think I'd have it written off before the run chase was underway unless D'Arcy Short was firing on all cylinders.

there must be 8 Aussies to choose from, given that they had a 25 man warm up squad, but I have no idea who the other 5 are

Pucovski
Bird
Tremain
Handscomb
Holland
Burns
Patterson

(Carey has a county contract)

of those names only Bird or Tremain would interest me for the T20, but long term it's the batting we need to replace. Burns is an opener, if we are looking ahead to the final CC matches, although Patterson is a top order bat too.

I think Burns had some sort of virus related illness that forced him to pull out of a deal with Lancashire early season, not sure whether that would rule him out. Presumably must have been ok if he was playing in that warmup game.
Short may be an option for the CC, not played a lot of FC cricket but I think he did play a fair bit last year at home. Perhaps his aggressive style might work on our pitches. Although we'd still need to replace Bancroft for the T20.
Other thing I was thinking - is getting a work permit often a fairly laborious process? Seem to remember a few instances where counties announced a signing and yet the debut was delayed because of work permit/visa issues.
Although perhaps the "contingency plans" mean that is all sorted out. There's no way they'd overlook something like that! ;)
