(Not that they put this squad together mind. As far as I can see, they've just been left to age and age, with little fresh blood introduced).

As for Ben Coad, surely Yorkshire cannot drop him even once Sidebottom, Brooks and Plunkett are back? Bowler of the season so far. Player of the season, in fact.

The finger of blame has to be pointed to Duggie Brown who has allowed a squad to age together without bringing in new blood. Porterfield, Trott, Bell, Ambrose, Clarke all well into their 30's and Hain seems to have gone backwards. Woakes at IPL and centrally contracted. Mr Giles has some job on.
I wonder what the salary cost of those 5 above amounts to?

Four for Benco as Clarke goes. Surprisingly it's Porterfield who is sticking. Raining though.

The lack of success of Ian Bell since returning to Warks wasn't expected. The uniform view seemed to be that he would be a different class at this level. IJLT was harder to predict, or even if he'd stick at it at all. Porterfield was someone who appeared to have confirmed being out of his depth in fc cricket several years ago and then spent time out of the side, and he can only be back in the XI due to lack of options.

Lancs have the opportunity to put Surrey back in. Have to really. Surrey themselves having an innings win in the first game.

I thought Bell would have had 5/6 prolific seasons with Warwicks before retiring but his batting has been bang average. It looked like he lost his mojo towards the end with England and it certainly has not returned.

From Memory Bell had two excellent scores, one of which was 174, at the beginning of last season and it's been more or less downhill since. Hain averaged 20 last season looking totally lost and he's looking completely hopeless so far this year.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

The last time Chanderpaul played for a county it Warwickshire, oh how they could do with him now.

Don't think Chandrerpaul would have lasted long against the bowling of Ben Coad, even Don Bradman would have struggled :halo:

Of course he would. If Bradman was still around to face him he would be 108 year old. :joydance

Glad I've got Coad in my FL team.

Indeed, fantastic innings from Cook today. He looked a class above the rest of the line up in the first innings and put in a match winning performance today.

Essex made it look all too easy today compared to Somerset's second innings. Expected them to struggle but polished off in style.
