Being the Head Coach for Yorkshire is one of the top jobs in domestic cricket, so you;d think that they'd be looking for someone with a track history behind them. Who knows, Lehmann might be up for the role in a couple of weeks.

20 candidates considered by all accounts. From being linked with Paul Fabrace and Brad Hodge to Andrew Gale is more than underwhelming.

The red ball team almost looks after itself and I don't buy the excuse of needing someone from within to transition Gillespie's work when Moxon can do just that. A coach with white ball credentials is what Yorkshire need for two reasons - to crack Twenty20/50 over cricket and to grow the domestic fanbase when Headingley's international future looks uncertain.

Andrew Gale as Yorkshire Head Coach is officially confirmed, on a three year deal.

https://yorkshireccc.com/news/view/5255 ... t-xi-coach

Small matter of having four recognised batsmen on the books (Lees, Lyth, Ballance and Leaning), only Rhodes with 1st XI experience as back up, Callis in the 2nds. Anyone else capable of making the step up are either bowlers or bowling all rounders.

I hope there at least one domestic batsman (or kolpak) and an Overseas player are identified for next year, otherwise Yorkshire will be joining Durham in Division 2.

Rumour is his first job was to interview a few potential Kolpak signings, but he ended up telling them all to f*ck off home.

And a bit confused when he couldn't find Kolpak in an atlas!

Yorkshire's batting has already been strengthened by Gale's retirement AP and it looks as if England have finally given up on Ballance.

Tim or Rashid will bat in the top six. Though if Moeen gets the spot at five long term, it's a bit more likely that Rashid will play for England more.

Yorks could do with signing a batter-keeper now Bairstow has gone for good.

Debatable whether Ballance is good enough to play in CC1 anymore.

Rob Andrew appointed Sussex CEO. Apparently he played cricket for Cambridge many years ago and comes from recent admin. in Rugby Union. Sussex recorded a loss of >£100k last year but don't have any historic debt.

Sussex got pretty lucky in their finances, because Spen Cama left a huge mountain of cash for the club in his will about 10 years ago. They used that money to bring the standard of the ground up to modern day, and in more recent times they are investing in development projects using spare land at Hove to build housing/office projects that have been front loaded in costs, but are expected to yield very nice financial benefits in the future.

If you have to compare it, we are in the middle-end of the Wenger/Arsenal/Emirates-Highbury style scenario, where a lot of costs have been incurred and invested into a project that should see us to a better financial future. Although early indications were we would post a profit in 2016, the recent members communications seem to indicate another marginal loss... which is worrying, but at the moment these amounts are covered by our 2014 operating surplus, so I dont believe that we are in debt.

Fortunes on the pitch are suffering mind.

It would be interesting to know how many more counties, if any, have no historical debt. More pertinent, perhaps, what the total debt figures for all counties amounted to.

Id suggest that no other county has no debts. Surrey seem to operate on heavy investment from independant benefactors, but a recently quoted ECB report suggested that Durham had the lowest debt levels out of all the counties with test ground capacity, so even they must have large debts. Certainly all test ground counties have large debts. Its just that Durham were the only team that didnt have additional back up revenues to service their debt. Other non test counties I am aware of, like the Derbys/Leics/Northants exist solely on the revenues from T20 ticket sales if their chairman's words are to believed. I believe I read somewhere that Kent were in a bad way (in fact, in about the late 2000's I believe they had to sharply cut costs). Other counties, I dont really know. Sounds like Hampshire and Glamorgan only exist because of their council backing keeping them going.

I'd have a guess at Notts not having a debt attached to them as their ground redevelopment a few years ago was paid for by a grant rather than a loan, other than that, maybe Essex, Surrey and Somerset might be others?

I believe Notts stated quite recently that they only make money when they host tests, and in years they dont get one, they make a loss. I believe they are currently undergoing early work on more ground development.

I have a feeling that they sold off a chunk of land next to St L for a housing development, but equally, I may be wrong in that.

Correct, along with a mini Sainsbury's. Albeit this was in 2012, some houses you could easily get access into the ground.

There's more apartments being built next to the ground right now. They just decided to ditch the car park.
