There's a bit of journo-chatter about Ian Bell going this winter. I can't see it. Least of all for a tour of Asia.

any links please Arthur.

Just seen it mostly guardian journo can't see it my self considering in cricket writers programme they basically said it looks like bell didn't actually wanted to play for england and was happy with Warwickshire.

Reckon it is more likely Batty returns than Bell plays for england again.

read the articles sound more like the journalist are shooting the gun early, considering it was mostly bayliss speaking to bell about the spinners and then asking him about his future plans.
not sure how they got from that he is a future pick from that although if he scores heavily in the next 3 weeks he might force his way in.

One ton and three fifties this season at an average of 37. Average of 29.5 over his last 25 Tests. Average of 27 in India.

I'd have him ahead of Vince though.

ahead of vince for sure but not sure he done enough to be ahead of other domestic contenders.
Would still have Hildreth, borthwich, Northeast and Daniel bell drummond ahead of him.

Would only really pick Bell if he averages 100 + in the next few games for Warwickshire and even then Bell would be a squad player for me, would prefer if the younger players got a chance above him in the team.

IMO Bell should be nowhere near the side, he hasn't done particuarly well this season...I would prefer the likes of Borthwick, Hildreth etc get a chance before he is even considered

Bell will possibly play for Perth in the Big Bash according to the same reports. I suspect his return to Test cricket is probably exaggerated - just because he's had a chat with Bayliss doesn't mean very much - especially as his central contract expires in September I think.

Hildreth certainly seems to have a few fans on here and around the country, but he's nearly 32 now and would be a step backwards. There always seems to be an opinion that he should have played for England, but back when most batsmen are reaching their peak he instead had two really poor seasons back to back which pretty much killed his chances. He's a very good county batsmen, but hardly the Chappy of batsmen!

I'd be surprised if Bell makes it back into the Test team given his average season with the Bears this year. I can see the argument the ECB might have in their heads that for a short term replacement for Vince in the squad it might be worth taking someone you know and knows the game at Test level over a punt on a younger batsman. Not sure I would be against the idea of sending Bell to India over having a younger more promising player mauled by India's spinners.

I'd rather them chuck a youngster in at the deep end than pick bell

If he was scoring run's then fair enough but it's trott who is holding Warwickshire together

When are the telegraph going to get rid of this idiot. Not that his overall opinion is one that is lamentable, but the reasons and justifications for it are utter tosh. How such a poor writer ever edited Wisden is beyond me.

Bell's test average of 42 makes a hardly compelling case for selection? I think right now England's selectors would set themselves on fire if someone offered a middle order batter that averaged that.

Is Berry really trying to suggest that England's selectors are setting the bench mark at a player averaging over 50 as someone worth in a batting line up that has basically no one averaging over 40 in recent times :slap
