Our last four wickets produce 39, theirs 132 and still going.

In the hope that he can produce some late summer turn, but in truth we've got sod all else.

But it doesn't matter what he might do, or what the pitch might do, if we don't actually through the ball to him. Which we have only just done now.

As I have been saying, we're playing one too many bowlers. Which is made even worse by the fact that three of them can't bat.

Annoying that our 1st innings lead isn't much greater than 74, but good to see Dawson end it quickly. And tbf, Read is surely the best player in the country at instigating lower order fight backs.

We're still in control of this match. Just.

Could yet be important that Notts failed to get to 250 there.

Hants apprear to have some fire in there belly in this game. This a very good game to win in their attempt to avoid the drop. Will Vince be back immediately?
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Up to the ECB I guess. Might they ask for him to be rested? Might he be in the ODI squad? But surely the best thing for the ECB is that Vince plays in all four remaining games for us, and from there they can make a decision as to whether to take him to the sub-continent - because if he doesn't score any runs between now and then, he surely wont be going on tour.

I guess there's the possibility of Vince himself asking for some rest, mainly in relation to a mental break, but he is our captain. I'm not sure too many people, rightly or wrongly, would look too fondly on Vince if he did go down that route.

If we use 96 overs as an example of how long our innings might last (every chance that they could bowl us out in less than time), then that would take us to exactly tea tomorrow. If we were to score at say 3.2 an over, that would be a lead of 380 with four full sessions remaining. I'd happily see us pull out there, even though the required rate for Notts would not be anything massive (less than 100 per session).

Unless the top three - and in particular these two - bat for a long time, I can't see us going at a rate anything less than 3. The rest of the batters all like to get on with it.

Cloudy and a bit muggy earlier on. Sunny from about 3pm. The outcome of the game will rely to some extent on whether it swings or not.

50 for Jimmy. That's him in the team for the next game, if it was even in any doubt.

Middle session today was Notts', but this session and the morning session were ours. Hence from an even game after day one, we are now in a great position. Would be nice to get through these last 6 overs without losing any more wickets.

When do folks think Hants should declare (if it comes to that)?
30 mins before stumps today?

I'd declare now with 20+ overs left in the day. 450 ahead is plenty.
