Ah, that's where he went.

It's quite likely we'll play a side very close to that in India.

true but people want that outside india as well.
quite a tail if the top order fails.

I don't see a reason why it couldn't happen providing Ali has a good series with the bat and Rashid / Ansari with the ball.

The top order is constantly failing

Just means they will be coming in at 65-4 not 70-5

but at the same time Ali/Stokes would have to be very good with the bat and then push on and average 40-50+ in the english summer.
loads of question mark about that sides surely they must be 2-3 batsman pushing for a spot in county cricket even someone without the number but the gameplay/mentality to make it in the test level.
for all the flat deck mostly in test cricket although sub c wicket are now actually quite tough to bat on but wouldn't really affect england much you would have thought england could find an opener averaging 35 or middle over batsman averaging 45 + easily.
even more baffling considering england haven't face good bowlers/attacks at home either barring a few.

batting cupboard quite empty at the moment.

That would be preferable

As we could have a proper spinner then Mo as a part timer

Mo seems to have matured, seems to have tightened his batting up a bit

Hopefully he carries this confidence into the winter

I think there is plenty of potential in the county game, but the issue is more that they're coming into a side looking for 3 batsmen at present which makes it harder and also they're all roughly the same generation which means you'll be taking a punt on any of them. Still look at the way Bairstow has come back so there's no reason that the same couldn't happen to some of the others.

If one of Ali or Stoke can nail down the number 6 and Bairstow continues his good performances we're actually only looking for an opener and a 3 / 4 which isn't too bad.

We have lots of young guys coming through but they all seem to be better limited overs players

I'd like to see Borthwick given a go, he is averaging 50+ this year

Borhtwick's form hit a massive road block when he started getting mentioned for a Test spot.

Did it rain or was there another reason for being 9 overs short?

TBH england not being decisive is probably a factor as well, wrote another forum since it suited there the most where literally a few poster every game say same team every game and if anyone questions hales/vince/ballance they get shot down for having a valid concern.
anyway picking the same team doing harm as well since the batsman are being worked over but they kept on playing so can not fix it or address it properly and if anything confidence goes and batting techniques goes slightly out of shape and is curtain for the batsman and it probably makes the batsman look worse than they actually are.

Not sure why vince, Ballance or any batsman for the matter can't miss games if they been worked over mid series playing another batsman might work out just like Sami Aslam, root or cook for the matter all scored unexpected runs.
Root himself got dropped and was better for it.
at the moment not sure why england gives too many chances and their going too the opposite extreme of the 90s.

At the moment most of the batsman get a summer or winter and when an bowler finds them out in an longer series they gone after mostly failing for the 4 or 5 test series and really before they would been some changes to the team that would have speared the batsman from having a proper horrid series.

not sure why Compton got all 3 test against Sri lanka or why Vince is still playing this test, Vince might be a future prospect but the guy not scoring runs if he worrying for his space plus some bowler got his marker.
sometimes the batsman needs to be spared the humiliation and have the time to work on their batting.

Think the last time England made a drastic change in the batting during the english summer was when Trott scored an ashes winning test century when Bopara got dropped.
not sure why england don't do it often since most of the time the opposition bowlers don't know the new batsman and so might not be able to trouble the new batsman like they would with the old batsman.

all fine give the new players a long rope but sometime it is kind to take them out of the firing line especially in a long series.

Quite like Jason roy but hasn't got the F/C numbers.

Duckett, Northeast and hildreth are also good options alongside borthwick.

they will blame it on the collapse but really the blame probably goes to Wahab riaz for bowling load of no ball and being really slow to finish the over.

yep that was big but even if he was averaging 80+ not sure he would be playing this test match, the failing bats would still get one more test match.
