Wonder what the criteria for the declaration was?

Didnt Australia end 9 down in 2005 at Old Trafford on a similar pitch? We insisted on setting them well above 400 despite only having about 100 overs left, and ended one short.

565 was an obvious target for me!

I guess an hour before and after lunch with a relatively new ball, hope to have Pakistan two or three down at least.

You have to take venue, opposition and being a working day into account.

Should be able to sell at least 60 percent of the tickets being what 10-20 percent full is really pathetic.

Either way, this reminds me of the declaration in the NZ game that Cook made fairly recently.... the wrong tactical decision that people defended because England won a game.

In truth, England should still win, but it doesnt mean the decision is right.

England have made history so what are you complaining about.

Boom Nasser talking so much sense here.
No one in the world wants to see 500 play 500, people wanna see wickets and action in test matches, lords type of scorecards is the perfect test really.

Making the opposition follow on is normally the braver decision, but in this situation, with all the flak Cook knew he would get, batting on was probably the braver decision.

Well in that one I believe England were miles in front, but despite the whole of the last two days expected to be a write off, England insisted on setting New Zealand 450-500 runs..... They won in the PM of day 5, but I believe they only got their 70 odd overs in nearly two whole days, and it began raining straight after.

Everyone credit Cook and Flower with excellent decision making, but NZ lost by 250 runs and had they lasted another five minutes, would have got a draw simply on the fact England batted on and on

Think cook needs to read the kohli article on cricinfo the one that says it is how you win and it is time his sides start dominating teams in test and now it time for his side to stop learning and start winning.

Different subject, but it does amuse you when you hear people say Kohli hasnt done much in tests....
