Wonder how Newman coping since he really hated compton and didn't actually want him back 2-3 weeks ago.
Feel sorry for Compton no idea why the media hate him, he looked so good at durban and then the media destroy the man, give him space and time.

Sadly think compton will get dropped after the sri lanka series unless he gets runs.

Berry doesnt really seem to have much explanation in the counter. His suggestion was to play Daniel Bell Drummond at 5, Hales at 3 and pick Alex Lees as opener. He says Compton was to negative for England and that his Cape Town innings was indicative, but then suggests a player known for very negative style of play as a replacement? And then suggests two openers to slot in lower down the order.

Saying that it seems Ballance is the new hated man by the ECB/media, seeing loads of guys attack him for not believing he had a technical issue and then fixing it/ changing his technique.

I don't read The Telegraph but I get the impression he has a pretty idiosyncratic way of seeing things. I seem to remember he wanted Bell out before the 2013 Ashes.

was a typical berry article really, suggest names for a new team with no reasoning or evidence of why it is needed and then he starts looking at future challenges.

thought all that was clickbait.
Berry is an odd writer considering he writes some really good cricket political pieces, but anything england cricket related it is poor probably due to the fact of ECB censoring stuff/ clickbait etc.
but when he writes on other country cricket reports they again are very good.

in general standard of writing in england games have gone down in the last 4-5 years.

I didn't want Bell out (though maybe I did), I went back and changed it.

Clickbait has pretty much destroyed national newspaper cricket journalism for me.

To be fair to the Telegraph, I got the impression it was more balanced during the period when the ECB threw KP to the hacks after he was sacked, than other papers.

Vince's career is reminiscent of James Hildreth, they seem to have a purple patch with big scores and a lot of very low scores thrown in.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

I dont know if its clickbait or not, I just think wants to disagree with others, and takes the position up naturally without really understanding why, so his reasoning are never robust.

A good case in point is the criticism of Compton. There is criticism of Comptons selection that would make a lot of sense, but saying he is too negative makes not a dram of sense. He came into a top order that was being consistently smashed, and showed he wanted to play with some grit. The fact he is so controlled and wants to be hard to remove should be celebrated, not used against him.

Vince's presence in the World T20 squad may have contributed in tipping the balance in his favour.

He may well have been popular among the players and shown a positive attitude when he wasn't getting picked which the powers that be may have liked.

Thankfully, despite the furore in the press to make changes, the ECB have announced a very sensible squad.

There's a lot of Ian Bell (and others) in James Vince when it comes to FC cricket. Makes lots of pretty 20s and 30s, and then gets out. Rarely does he look in trouble, rarely does he score slowly. But for whatever reason, possibly to due with what's between the ears, his stats aren't quite what they should be. Doesn't convert regularly enough.

I got lost once people started talking about clickbait

I have no idea what that means/is/was/might be one day

as far as SP's comment about ignoring players when they're scoring runs/taking wickets for fun, and then picking them when they are in the worst form of their lives.... that's just the way that England have always done it...... standard selection policy
