Just confirmed will miss 1st 6weeks of season.

One saving grace is Bresnan's absence is at a time when Yorkshire have all their players back from England duty.

He's in the Notts squad (I think) so might have a busy summer.

Sad news and a shock. James Taylor forced to retire because of a heart complaint.

Just seen this

Terrible for him. This is why cricket is such a hard way to make a living.... unlike footballers who can make huge sums of money at a very early age, cricketers don't, until they get that elusive central contract. After spending his life pursuing a career in cricket, he now has to start his career all over again at 26. In terms of his future career, it's as if he's really just wasted 10 years of his life.

The good news, of course, is that he has been diagnosed, which means his health can be managed and hopefully he'll be able to lead a full and active life.

This is probably the worst start to fpr county cricket for many years,
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Woakes didn't bowl in the Hants second innings, I think because he got hit on the toe by the delivery that got him out LBW. Hope it's not one of those toe injuries that can take weeks to heal.

The Essex batting line up is ridiculous. Between place 6-8 they have 64 First Class Hundreds, and averages of 45,42 and 37.... Napier comes in with an average a smidge under 30, and hes at 9!!!

Add to it Alistair Cook, Browne and Bopara above it, along with an 18 year old kid with half a seasons experience and an average over 40.... some effort getting this lot out!

Twelve games in early season, eight draws and lower order batters everywhere filling their boots. Dead pitch syndrome because of the new toss rules? Apart from in Worcs of course.

Looking at the first 2 rounds of matches, it might well be possible to win the CC, or promotion to div 1 with 6 wins this year, as counties appear to be protecting themselves from being inserted by preparing roads for CC matches.

I confess I don't really understand the point of only giving away teams the option of bowling first. If away captains could choose whether to bat or bowl, host counties would be almost obliged to prepare wickets with something in it for both bat and ball, I would have thought.

Isn't that the purpose of the rule change? I'm not sure what the benefit is in replacing 2 day wicket fests with 4 day snore draws, other than the members getting 4 days for their subscription instead of 2
