Tactical voting enacted. VVS Laxman is not worthy of featuring in this team, he is a player with a pretty good but far from excellent record, playing in possibly the most comfortable batting line up of all time, on pitches that were good for batting, in an era with few standout bowlers.

17 hundreds in 134 test matches is a pretty lean return, and his average itself is boosted by a huge proportion of not outs (which I would have to guess is historically one of the highest in history).

Someone like KP was infinitely a better player than Laxman.

Laxman's record away from his home pitches is also not exactly mind blowing.

There has been a vote though, presumably for VVS. And a Waugh, Imran and Botham vote has gone for Sobers. The only way I could recast my vote meaningfully now is to go for Laxman, but he's behind Waugh, Imran and Sobers in my order of selection. Hussey and Border too. Seems to be a split between Laxman for the side, and Laxman not even being near the side.

Maybe depends where the game is imagined to be played?

Agreed but then again we have a guy who was an absolute disaster in 3 of the 4 countries that assisted new ball bowling being picked as the opener. :?

When did this happen. I would plump for Sobers if his whole record was in the timeframe.

I voted taking into account his full record anyway. What is his record under the period in consideration?

Half of Sobers' games came after 65, he got half of his runs and half his wickets after 65, and his averages are the same. His 365* was before though.

The legendary Sobers is our number six after a recasting of votes, meaning the West Indies will have at least four players in the side, to (currently) three Indians and Australians.

Gavaskar
Sehwag
Richards
Lara
Tendulkar
Sobers
Gilchrist
Warne

Marshall
McGrath
