Its precisely the fact that the Premier League is the best in Europe as to the reason why English teams are terrible in the Champions League.
Take Arsenal - They lost to Dinamo Zagreb, a team who just won their 11 title in a row by going the whole of last year undefeated. They rested all their outfielder starting line up before the Arsenal game, and 9 before Munich. The only two players who played were subbed off at half time, and they smashed 4 past some hapless domestic team.
Olympiakos rested half their team and still beat some hapless side in their league 5-1 at the weekend. They have a 100% record this year, and have won the last league in 2014-15 by 12 points. Olympiakos have won 42 leagues out of 56 seasons of Greek football. They have won 10 out of the last 11 years.
These teams can rest up and focus on these games..... Arsenal go to United in a few days and have to have one eye all the time on who they play next. Zagreb and Olympiakos could happily throw points away in the domestic league to keep a team 100% fit for one 90 minutes.
