I can't help feeling the weather and unresponsive pitches are going to see draws across the board for the remainder of the season, sadly resulting in Hants relegation.

If so it will be down to our abysmal first half of the season.

Weather forecast remains to be seen, but I can't see many draws. Those avoiding relegation are playing against teams who have something to play for (prize money or record number of points). Somerset haven't occured enough points to prepare a deliberately flat wicket.

Also don't rule out the possibility of a contrived result at the Rose Bowl in order to keep all three results possible.

I reckon Yorkshire should capitulate from here so at least the last round of matches can have some meaning.

Sadly a 3 an over target on a flat track on the best day for batting of the four has been far too generous a target. Wonder how they decided on the figure. Gale said forfeit your second innings and Vince said ok meekly.

Haven't had to take any risks so once the shine had come off the new ball it was going to be relatively straightforward a chase.

Absolutely no question in my mind that it was too generous. The overs were not the issue, it was the run rate as you say. At no point did Yorkshire have to take any risks at all. And aside from Taunton, the Rose Bowl is probably the best ground in the country for batting.

White said afterwards that he wanted 320. You and I both wanted 350. Either way, as White correctly said, Yorkshire had all the power and the best we could get them to agree to was this. Do I blame us for accepting the deal? No. But would I have accepted the deal? No.

The only saving grace is that Sussex failed to take any extra bowling points, and thus take away the same number of bonus points as us. The consequence of that is that if we win next week and they lose, we will almost certainly survive at their expense. We would only need to match their bonus points from next week, rather than need to better it by one or two bonus points. But I hold out almost no hope.
