@KevinHandBBC: My understanding of 14-game season is top Div of 8 & play everyone twice. Div 2: 10 teams. But that would be for 2017 - next yr 1 up 2 down.

How would the 10-team 2nd division play 14 games? It sounds like play all 9 others once, then 5 out of 9 a second time. If that's the case it's bloody stupid but that's the ECB for you - all about money and f*** what the people who love the game want.

I don't know how it would work...probably disastrously! I think all this stems from an inteview given by the ECB CEO on Test Match Special this lunchtime. He was also on Sky during the tea interval but I wasn't paying attention!

I'll hazard a guess that the Division 2 fixtures are scheduled into three phases (not in order)

Phase 1: Split Division 2 into two groups (either based on regions or seeds). Play each other once (4 games)
Phase 2: Everyone in Division 2 plays each other once (9 games)
Phase 3: Some teams will have played 6 home games, others 7. Even this up by pairing clubs who have played 6 home games to those who have played 7.

Alternatively, start the County Championship in March and play three rounds of games in the UAE.

I thought any changes wouldn't come in until 2017. Surrey have already sent out their membership packs for next year. I wonder if the members will be aware of the changes.

Kent have released Brendan Nash. Kent now have no overseas or kolpak players in the squad, all the players are English qualified. Must be the first time in years something like this has happened.

Not sure he'll get in Yorkshire's CC team, under normal circumstances. I wonder if he'll get in Will Rhodes' way.

Just read on cricinfo that Rhodes was born in Nottingham, and educated in Cottingham. Cottingham is where I grew up.

He has done the reverse of you then?

One solution to this 14 games thing. And bear with me, I really think it could work. Remove the ECB and their meddling antics.

Yes, though I guess he's now not going to stay in the same place for twenty years.

Well, his work will take him away a lot. But young people are struggling to get on the property ladder so maybe he'll find it hard to settle.

A kind of cricketing Terminator. Very underrated. Injuries permitting he would have been one of England's modern legends.
