Both teams benefit from lower order hitting. Good to see Broad bat with more confidence and there were some nice shots. England will be relieved to have made 350 after yesterday evening's session. With the position we were in at tea, we should have had a good lead but made a few mistakes and NZ bowled very well.

4 overs before lunch and England didn't put it in the right areas. Yet again out-swung by the opposition, but plenty of time left to correct that.

What is a good score to have someone chase on this deck? 300 and England struggle? 250? 350?

Mark Wood's spell has been brilliant bringing England back into the game by dismissing set Taylor and Guptill.

Scores at Headingly suggest you don't want to chase much more than 200. Though as the ground hasn't had many Tests in recent years there aren't many recent games to go on.

happy with having them 4 down at tea, but if McCullum, and then Ronchi get going again, then they could still take it away from us..

Good start to the session, good end to the session. A lot of runs in between.

45 overs in this evening's session, weather and light permitting. If New Zealand are still batting then they'll be pushing 300. Equally, things could finish pretty quickly. Really don't know how to call it at the moment.

Both innings in a test though at nearly 5 an over shows a lack of discipline, leadership, and perhaps a sign that they really don't care. It's as if they can't start the One Day series soon enough.

I guess when you're making bucket loads of money for a few minutes of work in the IPL, why put in the hard yards for 5 days when you are being paid pittance.

I see this becoming an ongoing problem. In all fairness I can't really blame them.

Guptils scores, 70,0,0,70. The first innings scores 350+350=700.

Twilight zone anybody?

Going for a tied match, what are the odds?
