Utd just had a purple patch a few weeks back, that's all. They hadn't turned a corner. It's why City needed to beat them the other week, rather than the other way around, if a battle for the top four was to be kept alive.

Disagree with that, you can see watching the games how much our tempo of passing has dropped without Carrick. We found a good system for teams that give us space and got injuries. Carrick was the key to it. Sit back to us especially without him and we have literally nothing especially when our finishing is found to be so bad. Without Carrick, Rooney dropped back, Herrera is playing DM and McNair's errors are not covered.

Steve McClaren turns down the chance of managing Newcastle for their last three games of the season. Not surprised as taking Derby from top to eighth in the Championship and then getting Newcastle relegated from the Premier League all in the space of a few weeks wouldn't look good on the old CV.

He's apparently already accepted a contract offer from Inter Milan for less than half his current wages.
