Can't think of many niceties to add to Saker's epitaph. For someone who was brought in as a tactitian he has over seen a side who's tactics no one outside of the England set up could understand. As a coach he has overseen players going completely backwards and one of the most promising young bowlers in recent memory turn into a basket case.

Much thanks to Saker for his work with England over the years. It's often said a coach can only be effective for so long, and he may have stayed too long. And it's hard to quantify how much of a difference a coach makes. But for a while, he was associated with a functioning attack.

If we judge the bowling coach by how much he improves the bowling attack then Saker has achieved very little. Broad and Anderson were established International bowlers before Saker's accession and no additional bowlers have become established to support or replace them. Finn, who looked a very promising talent, has become" unselectable" because of interference by coaches.
During our last 2 visits to Australia our bowling attack has been nothing short of embarrassing supervised by a coach who has spent his cricketing career in Australia. Agree wholly with M.S.-good riddance.

Well Tim Bresnan did come good under Saker's watch before suffering those serious injuries

It's said by his supporters that he didn't get involved in the development of the bowler (this is what clears him of being responsible for Steve Finn). So I guess that means he can't be credited for improvements in the performance of the bowler beyond the impact of what is described as his strength: an ability to create bowling plans that work out batting weaknesses. But that means the bowling plans of this WC are on his charge list.

This morning they said he'd signed, then they said he hadn't because there were some issues needed sorting out.
