Have England finally learned what a powerplay is for? Or would Australia just rather play them in the finals than India? Australia are playing almost a second XI (no Bailey, Warner, Watson, Mitch J, Hazlewood, Clarke, Doherty all of whom will presumably be in the first XI if fit) whereas England are playing their first team. Perhaps it's a cunning plan to gather intelligence for the 14th Feb (how appropriate that these two teams meet on Valentine's Day).

sometimes think ali just tries to hit the ball too hard and isn't very well balanced through his shots as a result

Ali has hit two short ones for six, but yes, didn't look convincing in doing so. Still, he's doing his job.

Another fifty for Bell :clap and just 42 balls. He really is in excellent nick, and just 47 runs from being England's highest ODI scorer of all time (hides behind hands awaiting commentator's curse to strike)

Things have slowed down a little since the end of the powerplay, but this is still a fine start

I wonder what it says about England that their highest ODI runs scorer doesn't even break into the top 60 of all time. Every test playing team apart from Bangladesh (even Zimbabwe and NZ) have multiple players in the 6000 club. Do we just play that many fewer ODIs than anyone else? Or have we consistently failed for 40 years to produce a batsman that actually demands consistent selection in the ODI team for a prolonged period of time?

We did have one, but he's currently plying his trade for the Melbourne Stars...

just need to make sure we keep the pressure on and keep the run rate up , don't let the likes of henriques and Maxwell bowl cheap overs

we don't play as many games, or didn't until the last couple of years, most teams have guys with 300+ games and we don't have anyone over 200, think Collingwood still holds the record for caps

ali never really looked comfortable today and got out in a fairly predictable way , did a decent job but think he would do better if he just calmed down a little and not try to hit everything so hard

bit disappointed with taylor today , perfect situation for him to come in with bell going so well at the other end and just needing to take the single, which is one of his strengths, and get bell back on strike , but he looked a bit edgy and ended up trying to force a shot from a ball that wasn't really there to be hit
