we only took 7 wickets because they started slogging for the bouns point...if no bonus point, they would have cruised it probably only 4 down...dismal performance, and its not acceptable..

I may have hoped that I was wrong, but sadly, and unsurprisingly, I wasn't.

Out of curiosity...... did England attack the game? Was it something to make the 300,000 subscription holders feel excited?

AFAIK that is the new measure of success or failure

From the bits and peices I watched, I thought England bowled reasonably well. I thought England recovered well from 69 for 5 to post a low but not embarrassing score, and in both innings only one batsman scored heavily. All of our batsmen have made runs recently, so I don't really see the need to berate the team, occasionally these things happen.

Ballance out of the competition with a broken finger. Should be back for the WC.

Apropos of nothing really, but looking at the away stats of two sides, who are sometimes seen as big winners at home. Looking at the stats of England and India away from home (against top eight sides, since Jan 2011) tells me that India's players perform better away. I'm using thiis as a (flawed) WC indicator.

Stats, average and SR for batters, econ and SR for bowlers.

Dhawan 46-91
Sharma 45-84
Kohli 52-93
Root 41-78
Dhoni 59-92
Raina 35-95
Jadeja 35-90/4.9-36
Ashwin 4.9-41
B.Kumar 4.6-46
Finn 4.9-37
Anderson 4.7-31.

Expected Shami to be there but his econ away from home is a Dernbachesque 6+. You could argue that Finn isn't the same bowler that won those stats, but surprisingly, Broad is next in line anyway so the team balance is the same.

Trott would have been a certainty, if picked/available.

Those stats can't be right. There's no way Nohit averages anywhere close to 45 away from home.

Or Anderson those away. I must have cleared the away box in selecting the top eight sides, which can happen.

Thanks for pointing that out.

So it's

Bell 33-78
Dhawan 38-84
Kohli 49-90
Root 58-79
Dhoni 46-86
Raina 32-98
Jadeja 42-87/5.1-42
B.Kumar 4.6-37
Broad 5.2-33
Tredwell 4.5-46
Finn 4.8-33

Bell and Rohit's averages are similar but Bell's SR is better!

Tredwell and Ashwin's bowling records are similar enough to suggest picking Ashwin for his batting.

If you allege Finn was replaced by a double two years ago, Anderson stands by.

Includes away and neutral games.

Maybe four years is too long, as KP would easily make this side.
