"Hampshire coach Dale Benkenstein said he was happy with their total after day one.

"However it has taken an unbroken last-wicket stand worth 69 between David Balcombe and James Tomlinson to get them there, on a green wicket at the Ageas bowl.

"Gloucestershire's bowling attack is depleted with injuries, and Benkenstein reckons his bowlers will get a lot more out of this surface."

Yep, he says that has we'd bowled first, he'd have expected us to have bowled them out for 220. He also says that it was the wicket which dictated us reverting back to the extra batsman.

Sounds very much like we've prepared a result wicket, maybe because we're worried about how close Surrey are starting to get.

Thanks for everything Pothas. You'll be missed. My nickname for you was apt and I will never forget it. For the last time, arise Sir Nic.

Sounds plausible, doesn't worry me though, Worcs lose Ajmal soon, if not immediate.

From all the comments that have come out after day one of this game it does seem that perhaps 251/9 at the end of play may not have been such a bad score. Even so Glos were supposedly depleted on the bowler front and we were 90 odd for 1 and 144 for 2 and at around 5.30pm it looked pretty likely that we would be bowled out for under 200. So whatever the nature of the pitch it was still a poor collapse especially considering numbers 10 and 11 were able to bat so comfortably at the end.

So today, it would seem, when comparing the two bowling attacks we should be able to reduce Glos to under 200, and if we do the Benkenstein will be right, and the batting of yesterday will be partly exonerated. We shall see. I will as ever keep a pessimistic outlook so i'm not disappointed.

Yes, I would be very content if we dismiss Glos for under 200 ut will also remain pessimistic! If we cannot manage it then it would not say much for our bowlers or Benks' judgement or both!

Tremendous achievement. Let's hope Glos don't find batting so easy!

Sunny again here, can we possibly sneak a third batting point?

To put this partnership in context the best final wicket partnership by Hants last year was 53 by Tommo & Taylor.
In England last season there were only 3 100 run 10th wicket partnerships all season:
114 by Lancs against us!!!
117 by Northants v Essex
163 by Australia v England (1st test)
