Big Ron was speaking ironically, probably. But you just can't say what he said outside of a Chubby Brown performance. Imagine if Strauss had called a black player that word. That's the difference.

He made racist comments whilst in the Big Brother house too, which says alot.

Should someone be sacked over off air remarks? I suppose a lot will depend on what has been said, and the context. I think what is said off air, should stay off air, but if there is a complaint by a person who was there, then it should be dealt with accordingly.

The major difference between Ron Atkinson,Andy Gray and Andrew Strauss is the demographic.

Andy Gray insulted women, Ron Atkinson insulted black people, had Andrew Strauss said South Africans are c**** then fair enough, he should be sacked, had Andrew Strauss hijacked a live broadcast to issue his views, then he should be sacked.

He was unfortunately caught out saying something stupid. Its a storm in a tea cup.

I agree it's not a big deal. The issue isn't entirely ethical though, there's the consideration of what the target audience will stand for. Probably the public won't stomach being entertained by people who may have rather prejudiced opinions. But Strauss just doesn't like Pietersen. The question of whether they want someone to say *modded* on daytime tv, in front of themselves and their family is worthy of reflection, but it's unlikely to happen again.

Poor KP. He calls Strauss a doos and gets sacked. He questions Knight's validity as a Test expert and gets fined. Strauss calls him a *modded*, and Downton stomps all over a confidentiality agreement and no one gives a *modded*.

I would hate to think what is said off air. Like all work places, people will not get on, slag off their colleagues, and say things that are just plain wrong.

This was another thing I found strange. Even though he thought the mics were off it was strange to mention KP in that context at that point. The commentators probably go for a few beers somewhere afterwards. Straussy could have let off steam about him then. It wouldn't surprise me if he hadn't done that anyway. Why bring it up in the commentary box?

Just appears to have been a casual conversation with Nick Knight. How or why he was part of the conversation I don't know.

The ECB did quite well to get rid of KP. You hardly hear anything about him since they sacked him.
