If we win and so do Gloucs, we will be six points clear of 5th, with only a maximum of eight points left to play with. Sussex 6 down, needing 30 off 3.

7 down. Need 26 off 14.

And they have lost.

And Coles' good day back at Kent continues.

Going to be a convincing win, get Stevens, and they fall like a deck of cards.

Yep. Key injured. Denly and Mahmood long since gone. Very much a one man batting unit today.

Nice NRR booster this one,

Back to the top of the table...for about another 5 minutes.

Good win tonight boys. Still far from perfect though, which is the scary thing for the other 17 counties out there.

It'll be difficult to perform well at Finals Day without Abbott (and also no opportunity for Maxwell for potentially fire).

Hell, winning the QF (assuming we get there) will be hard enough without Abbott.

Carberry, Vince, Adams, Shah, Smith, Ervine, Dawson, Wood, Coles, Bates, Briggs - Nothing wrong with the batting there, but very light on seam and death bowling.

(Maybe Wheater for Bates, but probably not given that we'd be replacing a batsman and a bowler, with a batsman and an all-rounder).

I was wondering about the availability of Abbott and Maxwell for finals day. So I gather neither available, big shame as Maxwell does owe us a few big knocks in the T20.

Any possibility we can make an overseas signing or two purely for finals day, thats if we get there?

we can, but I was highly critical of Essex signing Dwayne Bravo in 2010, so would rather we didn't.

I think Monday will be Kyles last 4dayer before joining SA

Australia A are currently playing against India A, I wonder if Maxwell turned down the chance to play or if he wasn't considered due to being with us.

It rings a very vague bell with me that Maxwell has said it's a case of the latter.

I've just had a look, and I see that Australia's next match is 25 August. So even though Maxwell has previously said that he wouldn't be available for Finals Day (on 23 August), I guess it might not be totally out of the equation after all. Unlikely yes, but possible, if we could persuade Cricket Australia.

It should thankfully though mean that he will be available to play in our four day game away to Essex, and quite possibly our four day game away to Kent, as well as numerous one-day games at the end of this month and the start of next (in Abbott's absence).

As for today, if we win then only NRR (combined with at least one of Gloucs and Sussex winning four out of four) could deny us from qualifying for the QFs.

In reality, our final three games (should we win today) would all be about trying to grab a top two finish. And the last of those matches, minus Abbott, is a trip to Chelmsford.

We have close ties with CA, So I'd imagine they'd let him stay for Finals Day

Ever so slightly surprised to see that we haven't recalled Wheater, given that the top three have fallen early in each of our past two matches.

Wood at 7 is too much of a risk imo.
